I would be more surprised if this and Green Lantern were actually watchable. Tron worries me too, unfortunately.

Dredd has such potential if they'd find the right people to make it. I swear it should be a rule that to make a movie of a franchise you actually have to be a fan of it. Tron is starting to worry me too, they should have brought the original creators in. Still Dredd can't be any worse than the first one and at least this one is R rated to match the comics.

What the hell are those vehicles supposed to be? Is that a joke?? Present-day vehicles with three dollars-worth of dressing?? The judges used H-wagons in the comics - mean, chunky, hover-truck things. What's this crap here??

    That's definitely very weird...

When I look at those pics the first thing that comes to mind are those film location shots we saw from Chicago when they were filming the bank heist scenes for the Dark Knight.

It makes me wonder if they think copying a real world setting like in the Dark Knight would work for Judge Dredd. I hope I'm way off base in my kneejerk impression but if that's the case, they're gonna be in for a rude-awakening.

I really don't understand what filmmakers don't comprehend about comics and graphic novels. I mean, yes, the comics have to be adapted to a different medium obviously and some things might not carry over 100% but there IS a middle ground (as the Dark Knight and Iron Man proved IMHO) and those modern day vehicles in those photos are NOT it.

They don't hire people who are fans of the original material sadly. I was going to say maybe we're going to be lucky and those were just stand in vehicles for CGI ones but i guess not. it looks like they think that Dredd should have some sorta run down madmax feel where they're using whatever they can find.

Some stuff just does not translate well to film. I loved the Street Fighter games, but the movie was a turd on ice. Same thing with Doom, Mortal Kombat(All of them), Daredevil, Elektra...I mean, the list is as long as my arm.

Yeah even the good ones haven't been as good as they could have been. Some things should be done as animation, that's why DC's stuff always works is because they focus mainly on animation while marvel's animation was just as bad as the live actions. So far ironman is the only one they had luck with.

    You said it best.

The Judge Dredd I'm familiar with is set in a heavily-overpopulated, tech-heavy, future. Stallone's film got that look right, unfortunate that it wasn't on screen much.

This new film is looking cheap.

I'm not going to JUDGE this quite yet. After all, this doesn't appear to be a big gigantic movie they're making with a big gigantic budget. Maybe the story is just being given priority over setting and style? Yeah, that's a stretch.

But still, what's the worse that can happen?

Dredd is set in a 22nd century megalopolis which spans the entire Eastern seaboard of the US, thousands of square miles of mile high cityblocks connected by mile-high spiralling roadways etc. I know I normally scream for story over style and visuals, but if they're gonna chuck out Mega-city 1, it better be some good story. Unlikely since the original Dredd writers made the dizzying city and its insane high tech an essential character in the stories. It's like doing 'Wuthering Heights' without the moor!

The script is awful - cheap, humourless, straight to DVD action fodder. Could be any generic ultra-violent Jason Statham crap-fest, with Dredd and Anderson (retaining her psychic powers but none of her unique character) grafted on.

    Uber fail.

it better be some good story.
There is no story. No characterisation, no humour, Anderson and Dredd fight a drug gang in corridors of a locked down Block. That's the entire movie.

They can't even focus a stills camera, so I fear the actual shooting of this show!

this is from the 2000ad forum...

Alrite guys, Im one of the design droids here at the Nerve Centre. I rarely post on here but thought id just give you guys a heads up on stuff...

Yesterday, myself and the rest of the team got to check out some shots from the Dredd movie.

    1. Anderson looks great. Yes, she's blonde... (and hot)
    2. Bikes look cool.
    3. Judges look AWESOME! (and the helmets aren't oversized). Infact the entire Judge outfit looks spot on in my opinion.

You probably knew all of this anyway...

Now we have seen these pics, we are even more excited than we where before! DNA and co are doing a great job and we cant to see more stuff. Bare with us, im sure more pics will be released soon.

lets just see instead of claiming the demise of western society after a few dodgy snaps....I'm still very hopeful for this movie

    Respect

People said the same thing about Batman Begins and X-Men and look how those two turned out. It'll be fine. I reserve judgement until after the flic comes out.

Still executive producer isn't nearly as good as being director. Disney should have brought him in to run the show 100%. I still wish that Tron 2.0 and Legacy were canon together. It would make for an interesting universe.

You really think that a director -- that guy, especially -- has complete creative control?

Not like he did in the first one that's for sure. I don't think any director has the control they used to except maybe Spielberg.

I think last week's Corrie had more CGI than this is gonna need. Unless they are using greenscreen sets, it's all based in one building.

Used to? Sorry, but very few directors have ever had complete creative control.
