It's a total homage to Jack Kirby, for sure... doesn't really translate too well in a still image. But, the film has my money... despite the look.
The Thor costume looks the same as the previous pic and the concept art so...no big shock.
The others look similar I don't have an issue with them. I am afraid I can't get too worked up over the background of a still shot.
I am looking forward to the flick and have liked all the new Marvel films so I have no reason to think I will dislike this one.
Hey, cool, another comic book movie.
And it's being converted to stereo.
I'm sure it'll be great.
Honestly, I do.
(How do I convey sarcasm without using an emoticon?)
One pic doesn't make or break a movie. They have a good cast, and a solid director. I'll wait and see how it goes.
I never really was a fan of Thor... they need helmts though.
Thor doesn't look big enough.
What's with all the pretty boys in movies these days? I'll bet they all have manicures.
Nick, thanks for posting the Kirby artwork. They're definitely going for the Kirby mythic, tech-armor look -- which is great as far as I'm concerned. I have no problem with the design of Odin's armor. I agree, the lighting and his smirky smile aren't good. Wouldn't give up on the movie because of this. Verily, I sayeth, rock on.
I definitely have less of a problem with the design than with the look of the material. It just looks like plastic...
I do think the flick will be good. Kenneth Branagh knows how to handle characters, that's for sure...
Ditto what DarthGordon said... I want to see the helmets! I mean, I don't expect them to wear them 100% of the time but it is kind of an integral part of the costumes in the comics and I hope they at least have them in the movie in some form.
That pic definitely throws me. Thanks for the pics of the Kirby art. That helps me feel a little better about the "look" though it's not at all what I was expecting. The stringless eyepatch thing on Hopkins looks weird to me and I'm not really digging that yet. Or his costume. It reminds me of what I hated about the Wolfman where he requires WAY too much "movie magic" to make him look believably tough and strong.
I mean, maybe I'll wind up loving it. Right now, I'm not feeling ANY excitement for Thor which is really kind of disappointing.
And yeah, it kinda does look like "Iron Santa" peeing in the pool with that expression on his face...
Thanks to many of you.....
I hated this pic until the references to Kirby were mentioned. Jack Kirby always did that amazing/weird zig-zg shading, which on a second look, is what these costumes represent.
....now i'm hyped up again!!!!!!!
Looking forward to this again!!!!
Rich
Hopefully it will fair better than their latest, Jonah Hex.
I might see it if a buddy wants to go, otherwise I'll probably pass.
But I've never liked it when mythology (or magic, or the supernatural) get mixed into the superhero genre. I know it's been done forever, but somehow they just don't blend for me. Different animals.
Here's a new shot of Thor and Odin.

It (the costume) definitely has a Kirby vibe to it. And if you don't think that's great, you just don't know comics.
I like the costumes.
I think Loki needs the horns though, and why the hell didn't they get Brian Blessed to play Odin?!?!?
Thor isn't my favorite character, or set of books really, but when they do something right, they knock it outta the park. I hope the movie is nearly the same.
Kinda hoping they throw in a nice Iron Man beatdown like they had in the comics when Thor made his return
Chris
Knowing Branagh's classical background, I'd have expected his characters to be dressed like those characters in Beowulf or The 13th Warrior rather than tactical gear. Odin's eyepatch looks like cheap gold foil, not befitting the head god of Asgard.
At least they have really nice hair.
Quaff of the Gods.

They look cool in the second picture. In the first picture the background, lighting and composition make them look pretty cheesy.
