Jun 7, 2012 - The Mysterious Cities of Gold gets sequel! #1

Loved this show when I was a kid and still do. Yes it's in French but I'll watched subbed. Coming out September 2012!

    Trailer

    clicky

I love the fact they are picking up right where the old show left off. My inner child is thrilled, anyone else a fan?

    HELL ****ING YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVED the series as a kid. It was one of the FIRST animated series with a story arc throughout an entire series instead of stand alone episodes.

A while back the French company released a limited edition Medallion of the Sun in gold. I would have killed for one of those if I had the chance.

Love the original. And I wasn't even a kid when I saw it on Nickelodeon--I was in college! I was just recently thinking it was time to watch it again, it being three years since the DVD came out.

The trailer looks very promising. But where is Shuki Levy?

Maybe he's not involved in this? But they've definitely kept the original music.

An animated feature was in pre-production for a while a couple of years ago--it was sort of a retelling of the series, being a new adaptation of "The King's Fifth". Ran out of funding or something.

The theme music is there but the BG music isn't the same. However, given that they're not in Central and South America anymore, I guess a new style suitable to the new locales is appropriate. But it would be nice if the main character themes remained.

One qualm I have with the original is that Sancho and Pedro survived. They did not have the moral progression of character that Mendoza did; they remained selfish to the point of disregarding the safety of others. Thematically speaking, they should have died. Therefore I hope they redeem themselves in the sequel.

I wonder if the guy in the hood is one of the Olmecs. They would be the only ones that would need to hide their faces from everyone. Unless it's the evil Spaniards, Gomez and Gaspard, from the first series.

Anyone interested in the show here's a pretty basic writeup of the series: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mysterious_cities_of_gold

It also looks like the golden condor has gotten some upgrades as well. It seems like some sort of thrust coming out from the tail, and the tips of the wings move too. Very interesting! Who doesn't want to own the golden condor?!

Watched this as a kid (dubbed, not subbed) and then years later at uni someone shared the entire series on the uni network. The first time I re-heard that theme tune is one of the biggest nostalgia hits I ever had.

This was my favourite show as a kid too! It took me ages, but I finally managed to get it on DVD a few years ago. I was also lucky enough to find out a couple of the medallions and a model of the Golden Condor.

It's amazing they're making a second series over 30 years on, I suppose we'll have to watch it subbed as it will take a long time to get the rights to dub it, and will most likely have different voice actors too.

Sorry for bringing this old thread back to life but I just wanted to let anyone who is interested know episode 1 and 2 aired of the new season 2 with regular airing starting in March. Very difficult to find online at the moment and only in French of course.

My first impressions, loved it! Also shocked how much French I was able to pick up, my wife was like, "Holy crap, since when do you understand French?!" LOL!

The animation flowed, the story was a nice starter. All the characters felt right and seeing the golden condor was great. There is even a great surprise regarding the condor, the design has most certainly been upgraded. I guessing the kids have had enough time to learn some nice hidden secrets about the condor.

It was great seeing new mcog in for the first time in almost 3 decades. Now for it to be dubbed in english, here is hoping they can get as much of the old cast back as possible for the voice acting, that would be the icing on the gold cake!

I think it's months away---the first two was a preview dealie.

In other MCoG news, it's coming out in France on bluRay!

Don't know about English subs. Almost certainly sans English dub. But I would think a fan version would quickly follow.
