I didn't know he was hosting until 2001. I still haven't seen his statue on the North Side, I'm amazed how many people come to Pittsburgh to see it.
Growing up there were 3 programs that shaped and molded my childhood more than any others - Mr Rogers Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow, and Sesame Street. I've love to see the statue that the made of him in person.
Given the impact he and his show had on me, I'm touched to see that PBS has managed to briefly rekindle the flame and capture the gist of what it was to believe in Mr Rogers Neighborhood - a notion planted, in the garden of your mind.
Maybe one day when i visit my fiance i'll shoot down to pittsburgh and see the statue. i'm only 80 miles away. Those are the 3 that got me the most but PBS was on all day so i also got to see the shows for older kids that were art and even a science one (this was the early 80s so they had shows from the 70s on still). I think that's where my love of art and science came from even in kindergarten.
I was looking up some things on Mr Rogers and found this:
Fred Rogers Acceptance Speech - 1997 - YouTube
wow...even when being presented with his Lifetime Achievement Award back in 1997, he still managed to make us (the viewers and audience) feel like the moment was more about us and our loved ones than about his moment in the limelight.
...wow...
There are very few people in the world like that. We need more people like him.
i agree. we didnt have the show in europe, but still i know a little about it, and he seemed like a genuine nice guy, not just playing for the cameras, like a lot of childs entertainers do nowadays, and then have scandals off camera.
alltho we had something similar with "lφwenzahn" Which means danylion, with host Peter Lustig, who hosted it from 1979 till 2006.
i'd post a clip but im afraid its only available in german, so noone would get it![]()

The interesting thing is Michael Keaton got his start working on Mr rogers' show and even hosted a video WQED out of pittsburgh (where Rogers' show was filmed) put out remember the show and the life of Fred Rogers.
LOL - looks like someone is hiding in this video:

..."Before he was Batman...." LOL!!
Don't forget Betty Aberlin...How many young boys was she a first crush for? Not to mention from the 70s thru the 90s she hardly aged.
I always watched Mr. Rogers growing up. The videos brought a tear to my eye. It's a shame that my son won't be able to grow up watching. I wish PBS could find an equivalent but Fred Rogers was one of a kind.
The really interesting thing as the actor who plays Mr McFeely is always on PBS keeping Rogers' legacy alive but you don't recognize him without the wig and makeup. He wasn't that old back on the show. A neat side note to michael keaton: He had it in his Batman and Returns contracts that the movie wouldn't film on certain Pirates home games so he could get back to Pittsburgh to watch them.
I was floored when I saw That song on Youtube.I had forgotten about how much of my childhood I spent watching Mr. Rogers. He really was an absolutely incredible person.
I hope the newfound interest and the stirring up of alot of everyone's memories of the show produces some cool prop replicas out of the RPF.
On a sidenote the puppets always kind of creeped me out as a kid because they never blinked, hehe!
If you ever watched Reading Rainbow, I hope you like this. I was laughing the whole time
