Mavel side characters:ROM

What about THIS guy? I loved him as a kid and find it odd he's been passed up so long for a film-what do you folks think?

I know he was a toy first and then given to Marvel but,hell,they've made a Battelship movie so I don't think it'd be a stretch for all involved to see bucks with this guy running loose in a film.

Plus Thanos and those aliens came for a visit in Avengers.....

And this film could be very dark.

ROM is in a bit of ownership limbo last I checked. The original creator of ROM was in the process of reacquiring the rights, but I believe there is a hold up with Marvel and Hasbro and possibly Universal, or some studio. Last time I tried to contact him, I received no reply, so he may not be able to talk about it right now. I know,it sucks but dammit I think somebody would be seeing dollar signs by now.....

rom is a "unknown" character, that only had an ongoing comic in the 80s

since then he had his last appearance in 2001, and in the meantime only appeared in 8 books. noone in the real world knows the character, probably not even all comic book fans.

that, and the fact that marvel doesnt own its rights, make it relatively unfeasible. you could market it under the marvel name, but seeing as its not their property anymore, this doesnt work.

Could you realistically make a movie with the main character that looks like ROM? I'm certain the studios won't allow it as they wouldn't be able to relate to the character unless he took off his helmet for 3/4 of the movie.

I would think with all the cash Marvel is making that they would give a shot at buying Rom back and at least see how he'd do in a comic again.

If you were around then or read into it Rom WAS kinda big back in the 80's,so I'd expect he'd be able to make some good money for them now.

@Kerr yea true,but.....hell they're doing it with Dredd and did/are doing it with Robocop so they could do it with Rom.
