I get that this is a forum that has a section for making replica costumes and such and understand that some of you dress up for certain movies. It's fun! My question is: do any other moviegoers at your theater dress up? The closest that I've seen to dressing up for a movie was someone wearing a Spider-Man mask for the latest movie. Anyone have this same situation? No-one dresses up.

Yeah there aren't a whole lot of people in my area who dress up for big movies anymore. Back when the Prequels were being released it seemed to be much more common. It would be really cool to see people geeking out for their favorite movies. But that's part of why I go to conventions! : )

Yeah I would count it! At least it was something. I'm going to wear a home-made duct tape mask and shirt for " The Dark Knight Rises".

It used to be an event going to the movies. Now the theaters are dull, cookie cutter places. Nothing special going to a theater, I think that spills over into why not many would even consider dressing up.

Theaters might generate more business, by having a "wear a costume, get in half price nights" sort of like we did for Rocky Horror here in Orlando in the day. *sigh* that was a blast. It would generate more business as well for the theater as other folks came to see the cosplay folks and then more interest will be created by positive feedback loops...might be up to us to pitch it to the theaters.. They may not know there is an interest... I will check into it when I have my armor closer to completion... have some pics to get folks excited about.
Might be cool to be the one who starts it as a movement so more folks catch on??? DO you all want to start a serious discussion thread about ideas for pitching these ideas and coming up with pros/cons solutions ect? I am in if you all are!

I think more people dress up these days in our area. The last few Harry Potter films were crazy around here. I've never seen so many people with creative costumes. I went to see Titanic in April and there were people in fun hats and I saw a group of women walking into a theater to see Grease *sing along* and they had 1950's dresses on.

Have never seen any one dress up here in England for years, I think if anyone did now they would get beat up lol. I got some funny looks when I went to see Tron in my Tron Adidas track top.

All of our theaters around here are mostly attended by welfare collecting ghetto trash. I wont even go to the theater unless it is a first showing on a week day. At least then it is slow and not a crowded. I can then anjoy the movie with telling some P.O.S. to turn off their phone or shut the **** up!

No one would dare dress up without the fear of getting gang beaten.

who can afford a costume after buying movie tickets

IN reality I think it has more to do with the movie and fanbase than with the theaters.

When I went to the last Harry Potter film there were lots of people dressed up. With something like the latest Spider Man I don't think many people were that excited. I seem to get the feeling it was more like "oh...yet another Spider Man movie" where as with stuff like the Harry Potter franchise and Phantom Menace they were much anticpated movies

I haven't been to a movie in a theater in probably 10 years. Once I got my home entertainment area set up I am perfectly content to wait for the DVD's (Or blu-ray in the current case) Also I have been so dissapointed in my DVD/Blu Ray purchases I am now just renting them through Netflix and if they are actually good I will go out and buy them. As examples of dissapointment in movies... Transformers, Crystal Skull, and a few others that I own and they just sit collecting dust.

Theres not that many people in Philly that dress up. I use to but its not worth it anymore for a few reasons.

Depending on what or who you are dressing up as, the costume could be hot, uncomfortable since movies are getting a little bit longer now. Not to mention what if whatever you are wearing blocks the people behind you or on either sides of you.

Its not really practical to dress up for a movie.

Yeah! Around my area (Los Angeles) it's a hit and miss. For the Dark Knight I saw people with Joker makeup and tons of mask but never a full costume. For tonight's midnight showing of the Dark Knight Rises, I'm wearing my Bat-suit! I'm going all out.

I know a small group of costumers around Toronto that regularly dress up. And with my height and mutton chops I'm always confused for Wolverine (theaters, restaurants, I've even been asked to pose for photos at a Con while wearing normal street clothes)

At my particular theatres I can only think of once where a girl wore at Lantern costume to the Green Lantern.

Then there was the 3 times I waited in line for a few weeks for the Prequels, did wear costumes in line, but not in the theater (armour is just not designed for quiet sitting)

The last time I saw anyone over the age of 13 dressed in an actual costume to go see a movie in a theater was for Revenge of the Sith, and even then it was only a handful of people wearing inexpensive off-the-shelf costumes. The next closest was at each of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, but they were little kids with cardboard pirate hats and plastic eyepatches.

I am currently sitting at the almost draft house bar waiting for a showing of Monty Python's Holy Grail. I chose not to dress the part due to ferrying my kids around all day. There is a group here in costume and I am jealous. More fun in costume.

    Cheers

I recall an incident at a local theater when Phantom Menace premiered. The chain was told to put restrictions on groups attending in costume, allegedly by the studio.

most of the theaters in my area will not allow any types of masks or helmets to be worn in the theater, for fear of something bad happening...

    take care,

I think the prequels were the last time around here. The big theater that all the costumers used to go too is such a dive now that it's mostly gang members and teenagers that go there. I don't think the other theater is big on costumers but I haven't got to any openings in a while.
