Ohhhhh no.....If they named it something else....I might see it...I just don't know how to feel about this.
Why did this have to be remade? Why??
Karate? Jackie isn't even Japanese. What an insult to Pat Morita.
At least name it something else.....Kung Fu Kid maybe? At least it will be a separation from the original yet have the same premise like a reboot.
Why couldn't they just call it Kung Fu Kid or something else? It has nothing to do with Karate Kid.
Oh well, at least Jackie Chan is in it...
Looks good to me - Very nice choice of a teacher this time.![]()
I won't go see this, but I don't doubt it will make money.
I was kinda hoping that Wil Smiths big head would fall off the planet soon. Now we got to look forward to his kid for the next 20 years. What's up with the wax on wax off rehash...we all know what's coming. Why bother.
Well, at least they didn't go with Martin Lawrence as they originally planned!
It should have been called "THE ORIGIN OF SHO-NUFF!"

It was originally called "Kun Fu kid," but they kept the original tittle, in the end.
First half of the trailer looked stupid. The bully is some Chinese child, as opposed to a cocky motorcycle-riding cobra kai high school teenager from the 80s film.
Second half of the trailer looks like the original story but updated. "Take off jacket. Put on jacket. Take off jacket" would be the "wax on. Wax off."
Eh, like, I get what they are trying to do, but I need to see more trailers and previews to convince me to pay the $10.00 ticket. I'm hard to please. I'm still not too convinced about seeing Avatar, regardless the reviews and all the word of mouth.
This just looks atrocious. What a disgrace to a classic:

I will NOT see this movie. Some movies should just never be redone.
Well, technically, forever![]()
Nah, that΄s hairsplitting and wise cracking
I have to strongly agree, the movie΄s title is so unfitting, it can΄t get worse. And it will definitely create an uproar in the world wide Karate community. Heck, I can even see the Japanese feeling insulted about this, as well as the Chinese
If the adapt material, and change it so much that it becomes unrecognizable, then they should go ahead and change the title also to at least something that makes sense.
What΄s so bad about "The Kung Fu kid" ?
I can see the next big american football movie being called "Soccer - the movie".
In the 1980ies "Karate Kid" and the "Bloodsport" series started a big Karate hype, similar to what Bruce Lee΄s movies did in the 1970ies.
I'll not go out of my way to watch this. Infact, if Jackie wasn't in it.....I just wouldn't care. I might pick it up when it drops under a fiver!!
Yeah, this looks totally lame. One thing I liked about the original was the fact the kid was a teenager. Just seems they're trying to appeal to the 10 and under crowd with this one.
Philosophically, I don't mind remakes per se... I mean, they don't retroactively ruin the originals for me personally... BUT... even with that said, this one is probably one of the most wretched looking remakes I've seen excreted from the gaseous innards of the industry.
i love pat morita's character and also agree that the title is insulting; another example of the western world thinking there is no difference between the asian cultures.
Now i enjoyed the original film, as entertainment, but as a martial arts practitioner of over 33 years, from the beginning, i've always thought the martial arts 'choreography' of the karate kid movies was as hilariously absurd.
There is not a single black belt in the entire planet who wouldn't see that last 'cheerleeder double front snap kick' coming and run their face into it.
I felt the first films story was strong enough to give it a pass and enjoy the film nonetheless.
So, from a martial arts standpoint, i'm looking forward to this film, the choreography looks solid. IMHO Jackie Chan is a true master, and can do comedy. In all fairness, while, he's no Pat Morita, the original Karate Kid was no 'martial arts' movie. And this new version isn't a drama, it's a 'martial arts' movie. so i'm pretty excited to see it.
