I need your help ranking robots!

Working on a new print, and I need to rank some cinematic automatons from good to evil (or from evil to good).

I'm thinking of 5 categories -
Morally evil, which I guess would be sentient robots who CHOOSE to be evil. (Fembots?)
Neutral Minus - Robots programmed to do bad things (Westworld Cowboy)
Neutral (Gort)
Neutral Positive - Robots programmed to be good (Tough one - Seems like the good robots are sentient)
Morally Good - Sentient robots choosing to to good things (Johnny 5)
What's tougher is that I want rank each category from least to most.

Thoughts?

I predict many fights over this list...

But love it! Makes you think.

where do you put the T800?
Right in the middle?
IG88?

Tough, it's programmed to do evil but he's a part of Skynet which does the programming... So he could be sentient evil. Unless you put into perspective that he's eliminating a threat to his existence in which case he's "doing good". Then in T2 he's the good guy. Programmed to do good.

I'd call him sentient. But is being a bounty hunter actually bad? Has to make a living, why not help law enforcement? Probably a neutral as well.

Even harder. Sentient but so bummed out over never being challenged that he doesn't care good or bad. Another neutral I think... (see the trend?)

Maybe before dividing it into the categories you have you separate them into sentient & non-sentient.

Then take the sentient list and divide them between good/bad/neutral. Take the non-sentient list and divide them into programmed good/bad.

They aren't robots.

Programming aside (they are robots) I'd say you'd have to specify in the context of the movie (and in some cases, a specific movie cause the T-800 varies)

In that way there is Good (Iron Giant), neutral (Silent running), bad (Cylon) - then rate their deeds against the others in their group

As you've seen, getting into Sentience and the like will compound the problem of catagorizing.

Depends on your definition of sentience. C3P0 & R2D2 make their own decisions so I would call them sentient. There is a big difference between choosing to do good/bad and being forced to...

Oh, and Daleks aren't robots either. If you have them you should have Cybermen.

I don't know Dr. Who that well. Tempted to have one robot from each property, but I guess if I do that, I've got to dump C3PO or R2....

I'm trying to think of a recurring "robot" bad guy in Who. Both Daleks & Cybermen have organic beings (granted engineered ones) controlling them.

Possibly the Autons? Although in nuWho they kind of messed up the whole programmed thing.

You need to add Tom Servo and Cherry 2000.

You mention Johhny 5, but don't have him on your list. But either way, this is a pretty interesting read. I am enjoying this. I was also going to suggest V.I.C.I. from Small Wonder, but realized that was a show, and Chip, from Not Quite Human. But also thought, TV movie.
