oops was laughing so hard I even put the wrong name...
Couldn't disagree more. Jaws remains one of the most effective 'horror' stories on film.![]()
Don't get me wrong, it was awesome back then, but some of the scenes specially the coast guards look weird...
The scenes and effects will never stand up to today's effects but the movie itself is a classic and the acting is great!
I do think the effects and the scenes stand up pretty well for a movie over 30 years old.
Jaws is simply one of those classic, darn near perfect movies... looks crappy and bad acting? I think you are watching a Jaws rip off called Shark, cause you sure don't seem to be watching Jaws.
Many special effects will become outdated. Having said that Jaws is still an amazing film. I recently watched it and the film works on all levels. The story, characters, pacing, directing, score, and acting were all great. That's why they call it a classic!
Wow, I could not disagree more. Jaws is one of those movies that holds up remarkably well, in my opinion. Robert Shaw's delivery of Quint's monologue about the Indianapolis is amazing and still gives me chills!
This thread doesn't even deserve a reply... JAWS is imo Spielberg's best. The acting is fantastic. Even Bruce the mechanical shark, with all his problems, still scares the pants off anyone I introduce the film to for the first time.
There is already a thread for movies that everyone else loves but you.
There is no 'but' regarding Jaws. Especially if you try to call out the acting.
I'm going with the crowd on this one. We watched it again a couple of weeks ago, and the first thing we said when it was over was how well it still holds up as a great film.
My advice would be to re-watch it with the following in mind: no expectations on effects, etc.; think about how people would be acting/reacting if this was a real event; and last - and most important - relax and *get entertained* by the movie.
This guy can't be talking about Jaws?! The acting is amazing in each and every scene.
Hell, it's the perfect film!
I'm guessing this threads author is a bit younger than most of us.

I want to introduce him to the guy who thinks the Alien Queen is a dumb design. They ought get along just fine.
Jaws 3D was on today. Maybe he meant that one.
its like saying the dinosaurs in jurassic park were not well made...
Have you recently suffered massive head trauma? It's the only logical explanation.
The only thing in that film that shows its age is the shark. Everything, and I mean everything else about it is pitch perfect. It's a textbook case of how films should be made, ranking right up there with The Godfather, The Wizard of Oz and Casablanca. It comes from a time when every aspect of making a flim was damn near an art form in itself.
I do agree that movies have changed, though. Today, they're largely shiite. There are rare exceptions. But sadly, fewer and fewer each year.
