I saw it last night with a few other RPFers. It was the first one I didn't get bored with since 3. Though I haven't read the books and had wished they'd show more of the epic battle versus staying focused on Harry Potter's side mission of collecting Horcrux's instead.

Jheilman- I felt the balance of the combat was just right. This wasn't LOTR warfare of many thousands ,but a few hundreds at most and there wouldn't be the variety of weapons, situations or combatants to keep it going for ages, like an historically fought battle as with the fields of Pelennor to keep it interesting. The focus of the fight was between Harry and V and it seemed right that it was so. Personally, the state of the audience was in anyway,if there had been too much popular character sacrifice seen on screen, everybody would have really gone to pieces. As it was there were a fair few loud sobs and tears shed, which surprised me at such an early time in the morning. Obviously, alot of fans had invested a hell of alot with the cast anyway, which was understandable.
It could have been expanded to include a few more storylines beyond Harrys but in don't think it would have made much of a difference. The way it built up to the final confrontation was very welldone and I agree with the others, there wasn't even a second where I wanted to check my watch.
I saw it in 2D as thats how I saw the rest of the series and it was great. The 3d appears to be getting alot of thumbs up, so its really what you feel you want to see it in.

Just got back from seeing it and it was an amazing movie... I've never ready any of the books, and kinda glad I didn't or I would have known how it all ended, which I tried not to find out...

One slight nitpick tho, Filtch's cat had normal colored eyes in this one and not the cool red ones

Really enjoyed it. Amazing effects. That CGI dragon is the best dragon I've ever seen anywhere. Was it designed by the guy who did the Cloverfield/Star Trek/ Super 8 Monsters? It had the same feel to it. That dragon takes CGI to a whole new level. And for once in a good way.

I loved it. Teared up like crazy through most of the movie. I read the books so I knew what was coming. I'll list a few things I wish they didn't change.

    Spoiler:
Buckbeak, Grawp, centaurs and house-elves don't appear during the Battle.

After the conclusion of the battle. Harry, Ron and Hermione stand on the remains of the Viaduct. Harry snaps the Elder Wand in two and throws it over the side.
Harry does not use the Elder Wand to repair his original wand.
Harry does not go to the Headmaster's Office after the battle.

The duel between voldy and harry is significantly different. The book version has more tension and is all around better IMO.

This is probably a stupid question...

Is it worth seeing in 3D.

(I know, I know... there really isn't a flick worth seeing in 3D).

UP was worth seeing in 3D. (in my opinion, of course)

CutThumb - thanks for the info. I was a little disappointed that Lupin and Tonks were not developed nearly as much as in the books. Lupin and Harry's talks in "The Prisoner of Azkaban" are among my favorite scenes in the series. And Lupin's distress about marriage and having children lead to a huge falling out with Harry. That made the catharsis at the end much stronger. Not sure if any of that is in this film, but I'm guessing no. It should have been in part 1. But you can't have everything. Similar to the LOTR films. Cuts have to be made. Will be watching it in 35 hours - not that I'm counting.

And, how was the teaser for Dark Knight Rises? More intelligible than the bootleg online?

I thought it was a fitting end. Well done.

Of course, while I've seen all the HP films, I didn't finish a one of the books... and in all honesty, didn't remember a great deal of the character's names (the major roles, yes... even Nevill's.)

And Emma Watson in Bellatrix' garb. Nice.

I can't remember it having a "in your face" moment, but i think it helped a little bit with the magic scenes. 3D is not more expensive than the ordinary version...atleast here in sweden.

I went to the 2D showing. First off, I have now been up for almost 24 hours straight and the theater was VERY warm....so I caught myself nodding off a couple of times. I don't think it was the movie though

It was good. Just good, IMO. Not great. Not epic. I have never read a single book but have seen every movie. Wrapped up the story well but I enjoyed the first part of The Deathly Hallows MUCH more than I did Part 2.

But all in all it wrapped up the story and gave it an ending that I am ok with. Maybe I was just expecting too much?

My brother has read every book religiously and he said it was what he expected as he had been disappointed with every movie since a lot crucial info was not included that he felt should have been. He said it was good but it could have been a lot better.

Loved it. I am still missing stuff from the book, but expected cuts. I was a little frustrated at things that were hinted and never explained. Maybe they did that just for those who read the books? The history of Dumbledore, his family, Grindewald, etc. were all hinted but nothing more. For those who love the films but have not cracked open the books, I really recommend them. So much more depth and detail.

I really liked it. As action-less as Part 1 was, this made up for it.

My two main, if minor complaints - that the big finale was changed from the novel, and one scene from the novel wasn't included:

    Spoiler:
When Harry hits the Death Eater faculty member with the cruciatus curse just for spitting on McGonagall. "Bella was right. You DO have to mean it."

Speaking of, I thought this was one of Maggie Smith's best movie in the series.

Got back today from seeing it. I was very impressed. Hadn't read the books, so for one who just saw the films only this one was very well done.

One thing that absolutely blew my mind was:
    Spoiler:
The amazing effects done in the aging of the characters 19 years later. I don't think i've ever seen something that well done with both body type growth and facial changes, but done just right to reflect that age difference. They went way above the typical "Let's just give them grayer hair and wrinkles or get actors older than them" thing. That was just nuts. I really believed they went 19 years ahead and shot that sequence. Or... did they really do makeup THAT good? Was it a mix???

Overall very well done and was one of the best in the series. My other favorites was 'Azkaban' and 'Goblet'. Great wrap up to the story. One of the best films I've seen this year. Intense couple hours and it went by fast!

Oh... and the 3D... Pointless. After that I think I'm done paying extra for the gimmicky 3D. Wearing glasses bugs me too. Doesn't immerse me into the story any more than it would in 2D.

Went to the midnight showing and realized when we got there we had bought our tickets for the wrong theater!!!!!!!!!! Rushed to the other theater and got there with 15 minutes to spare. Ended up having to sit in the second row but it was still worth it!

Oh good.. I'm not the only one that thought she looked HOT in it..

It was a really good movie, and sad knowing there is no more..

But, to be honest, I expected more.. Especially the deaths of main characters.. You see a little bit of them preparing for battle then they're dead in the hall.. You don't see them battling and dying..

Would have changed a few things and added a little too..

    Spoiler:
Come on, Luna and Neville get together, Ron and Hermione come back into the hall from snogging, but the first time Ginny and Harry see each other after the battle he walks past her as she cuddles up to her mum?? Come on!!

All in all, was a good movie and wish there was more.. Maybe, she'll start writing " Albus Potter and the Potter's Never Say Die.."

Finally saw it this weekend. I'll echo the "perfects". Loved it. Great to see a movie with so much action manage to keep the emotional intensity up for so long as well. Snape's pensieve scene was done very well.

Saw it in 2D in a digital theatre and was blown away by the sound and vision. I may check out the 3D version while it's out there.

How would THAT be possible? It was hugely action-packed, at least by comparison with any other film in this series.

Yep. The first part was a grim, time-in-the-wilderness endurance test. They could have skipped it entirely as far as I was concerned. This, this was the way I wanted the series to end. Nice one.

Really? That was one of the things that didn't work for me. I flinched during that entire scene. I couldn't tell if they did anything besides dress them up as adults.
