Guardians of the Galaxy (Post-release)

I saw it again last night with some friends. Its a blast.

The biggest achievement is the 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.....92%!!! A Sci-Fi movie has to be stellar to get anything over 80.

This is definitely my new favorite movie. The only disappointment was that there was no ELO in the movie. I even read somewhere that James Gunn considered putting Livin' Thing in the movie. Oh well, maybe in gotg 2.

I'm a huge fan of the Marvel movies despite not ever reading comics. I've always thought the movies were good, entertaining, fun. Everything a movie should be.

Like I said, I never really read comics growing up so I had no idea who the Guardians of the Galaxy even were when I heard about the movie a few months ago. I went into it with the impression that Marvel was just cashing in on everything they could get their hands on. I came out of it feeling like I hadn't just seen a good, entertaining, fun movie, but that I had been part of an event. The same way I felt after seeing Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Back to the Future, etc. I had so much fun with this movie, I enjoyed it more than my five year old son and I almost divorced my wife after she fell asleep during it.

I saw it this weekend, too. Loved it! My one complaint was that I'd like to see more character development, but I think there really wasn't time in this film. Of all the stuff I've seen from Marvel, this one struck me as the most adaptable to a weekly TV series. But that's a separate matter.

I wouldn't put it on the same level as, say, Star Wars or even some of the other 80s hits, but I think that's because...it's hard for films to actually become that nowadays, given how fast the entertainment industry moves. The "next big thing" is always just a tweet away, ya know? But regardless, I'm glad I saw it in the theater, and look forward to owning a copy and for future entries in the franchise.

Bottom line: it was a terrific film, felt like it had heart and really cared about what it was doing, but also wanted you to have fun in it. It didn't strike me as having anything cynical about it. THIS is how summer blockbusters should be.

I knew if they did it right, it would either be a big hit or a big cult hit with comic fans.
Show people something they haven't quite seen before can payoff.

For me this is a breaking point with any new Star Wars. I'm officially divorced from it other than the original trilogy, and truthfully it's a relief.
Give me Marvel cosmic tales anyday. There is SOOOOO much great comic material to tap for years and years to come.

I wouldn't say it's a "breaking point" with Star Wars, but rather it shows that other films can provide a very similar experience, and Star Wars is no longer the only game in town for space adventure. My guess, however, is that everyone working on Star Wars recognizes this and they don't intend to rest on their laurels. They may not make a movie that everyone likes, but I don't think they're gonna be phoning it in.

The beauty of Guardians for me was how totally unlike "Starwars" it was, and I mean that in the best possible way. Its characters, pop culture references and especially the design asthetic was wonderfully "comicbook". All the Marvel films from the 1st Iron man on have managed to feel entirely crafted from the same universe and they have done so with a brilliant consistency thats rare to find beyond perhaps Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. More and more the successfully "franchised" films have capitalised on delivering what the audiences respounded to, and I think that the internet has helped this no end. Film companies pay ALOT of attention to what fans like and don't like about their films now and are all the more willing to listen, particularly when such series can produce billions for them.
Which is why I'm as pleased to hear the Guardians sequel is going the way it is and I have utter faith that the new Star Wars is going to deliver exactly the kind of long ago far,far away universe we've been waiting for for so many years. for it won't be just one mans vision any more, it will be an agreeded and well crafted series done by people who are avid fans of the original trilogy. for which I am truely thankful.

I'm happy now to have a new rich road to travel as far as fun space film action adventure. Personal choice, I was simply done with any new SW for a myriad of reasons, so this came along
at a great time for me. Granted I was a Marvel cosmic tales reader already, but so great to have it realized on film.

#gotgpicoftheday At a panel on Sunday at Dragoncon, I talked about a deleted @ realstanlee cameo in Guardians, and promised the folks there I’d post a photo on Instagram - so here it is! As you can see, this is not Stan, but a double.

In the original cut of the film, when the Guardians enter the Collector’s museum, Rocket looks over and sees Cosmo the dog in one display case, Quill looks over into another display case and is surprised by a tentacle slapping against the glass, and Groot looks over and sees, in another display case, Stan Lee. In one take, Stan Lee just slowly turns up his finger, flipping off Groot.

We shot this footage with a Stan Lee double because Stan wasn’t able to come to the UK at the time. The plan was to shoot Stan in the same lighting when I was back in LA, and we’d digitally replace the double’s head with Stan’s actual head (not quite as difficult as it sounds). Although I thought the cameo was funny, I thought the flipping off joke was too similar to the moment earlier in the film where Quill flips off the Nova Corps, so I excised that part of it immediately.

A couple of the guys at Marvel thought Stan Lee in a case was too broad of a joke in general, and that it took the audience out of the movie. I argued about it for a bit, but we ended up not keeping it in the film. In a pretty typical case of Internet-journalism-telephone, articles online yesterday said that Disney forbade the scene because of standards . However, that’s incorrect - no one at Disney ever even saw the scene, and it was cut solely for creative reasons.

Spoilers ahead.....do I even need a spoiler warning in this forum? Better safe than sorry

After I dropped my son off at Kindergarten I got an itch and went and saw GotG for the second time. Such a great movie. Like genuinely, a great movie. I remember being a little upset on the first viewing that Drax didn't really get much vengeance on Ronan despite a couple opportunities, but after the second viewing I thought it was a nice touch that Drax shot the gun that destroyed Ronan's hammer and freed the infinity stone. He may have gotten thrown around like a ragdoll by Ronan in hand to hand, but at least he pulled the trigger that ultimately led to his destruction.

This is a post-release thread where spoilers are allowed for this movie without any warning, one can use spoiler tags if they want to but it's not vital.

Loved the film. One head scratcher, though, was the deal with Gamora having to turn off a thing one floor below where the rest of the guys had to get through a door. She gets delayed, blah blah, then she does it.

Then immediately just blasts a hole in the ceiling and jumps up into the chamber.

She could've done that to begin with!

I HAD THE SAME ISSUE!, I think there may have been some editing that played funny once done. But any action adventure movie they always have that scene "press the lock before we get in moment"

They should of had Stan Lee pimping a three breasted space hooker in the mining town.
