Forgive my lateness, I have a 1 year old and it makes it hard to regularly see movies like I used to keep up on.

Very briefly I just wanted to say that Fincher's "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" on Blu-Ray was one of the most beautifully shot and well-colored films I've seen in quite a while. I also loved the amazing use of effects for such subtle things that didn't at all look like they were added in post. From a technical standpoint extremely well executed. I loved the use of colors, lighting, and how crisp the shots looked.

    Impressive work!

This was definitely one of my favs from last year, from both a story, acting, AND technical perspective. Pity it was so underrated

I enjoyed it as well. Fincher is one of my favorite filmmakers.

I also liked the version made in 2009 with Noomi Rapace.

I got to watch it after my mom finished the book. It was a pretty decent thriller. I don't know how well it did at the box office, but I wonder if Fincher will do the other two book adaptations too.

The first part of the swedish version is pretty good if you like the story or like Noomi Rapace as she plays the leading character brilliantly. That was the film that got SRS to want her in Prometheus.

I liked that David Fincher decided to use a Tripod to shoot his shots so that we could enjoy and admire the nice visuals seen onscreen. You know, instead of shaking and banging on the freaking camera to make it look cool.

If you look at the bonus features, they even talk about how the high resolution cameras enabled them to stabilize the picture even more without losing the intended picture quality.

Yeah the shaky cam style is annoying. I did enjoy Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth, she really looked like she could kick someone's ass. I look forward to seeing how they do the other remakes.

One of my pet peeves is 'shaky camera syndrome' where film makers shake the camera to make action shots look more action-y. I hate hate hate that, and that's one of the HUGE reasons why I hated all the transformers movies. Action shots where the camera was so close to the huge robot you couldn't tell if it was a knee, elbow or even which robot you were looking at.

Having said that, I have yet to see either the Swedish version or the North American version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I have read all the books and found them very engaging. I also own the soundtrack to GwtDT that Trent put out. I'm nervous though, I have an image in my mind how the first book looks and feels and movies usually let me down.

    It was her breakthrough.

Yes, the shots were insanely steady and the tripod shots were very nice too. I don't like when the shaky shots looks intentional in some movies. It gets pretty annoying.

The flow of this one was really good and of course all aspects of it were well done.

My only gripe was that some of the dialogue got very mumbly and difficult to understand, even with the volume cranked up.

Musically it was awesome and the opening sequence was crazy. I loved Reznor's cover of the Immigrant song. Pretty amazing stuff though. Glad to hear a lot of you enjoyed it as well. It got some Oscar notice in some of the technical categories, but overall I think it was underappreciated.

Trivia from the David Fincher remake, from the IMDb: Noomi Rapace's performance as Lisbeth Salander in the original Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was so well received, a campaign to have her reprise the role in the English language version gained wide attention in the media, championed by film critic Roger Ebert, among others. Ultimately Rapace declined to reprise the role, saying that after playing the character for three years (during the filming of the original film and its sequels), she couldn't play the role again in the same stories.

100% COMPLETELY AGREED!! I watched this movie about 4 or 5 times once I got it on Bluray. On 3 different tvs. Each one, the balancing was awful. The music and sound effects and strange "Humming" that happens throughout half the movie was just SOOOOOOO OVER POWERING, it made the dialogue almost impossible to pick up in certain scenes. It may have worked better on an actual 5.1 or 7.1 Surround Sound system, but we only have standard speakers. And it was pretty bad each time. Other movies watched on these tv's are fine, but Tattoo was not. I thought it was just us, but relieved to hear it wasn't.

I really enjoyed this film a lot as well, I never saw the original movies or read the books, however I felt that Fincher and the cast did a great job of telling this story.....also I was shocked some of the scenes were okay for an R rating I am sure they were pushing the limit.

ive seen the 3 swedish films but not the american version of the dragon tattoo
im satisfied with the original (really well made and quite cruel)
when i learned that the american version was filmed in stockholm and with swedish names to the characters it just felt weird

I saw all three of the originals, then the remake. I thought Fincher did a great job of mimicking the original, and I was OK with some of the story changes, but why go through all that trouble just to remake a good movie?

    Oh, I know: $$$

But from an artistic standpoint, why not make it your own?
