May 31, 2010 - FINALLY got to see Sky High... #1

    and I gotta say...

My wife and I enjoyed it.
Sure there were lots of it that seemed predictable, but I think the "hero film cliches" were almost "tongue in cheek" in so much that I thought they were pretty much put in there as a homage to comics of the past. If you read a lot of comics, there was no way you couldn't see where this one was going.

For the demographic that this was marketed for, it was really well done IMO.
There were things that I felt could've been done a little differently, but we got it and had a lot of fun.
It didn't take itself too seriously, it combined the fantasy, adventure, and humor that it needed to keep you involved, was pretty well paced, and was family friendly.

A great film for everyone on this fine Sunday evening.

Now we've just got to find it on DVD.

    Good job Jet!

    Here's my wife:
    Wifus Interuptus:
HOW did you get the music released? so cool...It took me back the stuff that I listened to in high school and GOOD music, in my opinion... The lead actor..."Honey, I've seen him before, looks like ferme le bouche [rhymes with, anyway]..IMDB...Michael Angarano, he was in the Forbidden Kingdom! [we loved that movie] ALOt of Fun!!!

Awwww - thank you so much. And there's a LOT of things I wish they had done differently, but that's just the way it goes. It was my first film to sell and have made so my opinion meant about as much as the janitor's.

The music was taken care of by using covers instead of original recordings - The Fixx's "One Thing Leads to Another" was actually sung by Steve Straight - Warren Peace, who has (or had) a band at he time. Back when I pitched this movie to Disney (and other places) i would describe it as "A John Hughes movie, but with capes". Mike Mitchell (the director) always liked that - so he came at it more of a nod to teen films of the 80's rather than a Superhero movie.

I lost a lot of battles with this movie - i still nod my head when I watch it. We actually got to a point where they wanted to cut Warren Peace from the film - thinking he was too... um, wild - for young viewers. I still wish they had kept it that Will didn't get powers until the end of the film - and there was also a High School for SuperVillians planned in the first few drafts, but alas - i have other things to pull my hair out about now. I do think the movie is cute - but I feel if some of the choices had been left as is from my first few drafts we would be well into part 4 by now.

I'm really glad your family liked it and thank you for the compliments - it was a year of my life laboring and rewriting and I am glad there's something enjoyable to show for it.

Came across it by accident on TV one rainy weekend, having previously avoided it, assuming it would be Disney mush. Absolutely loved it and have since bought it. Great job!

He was there, you just couldn't see him.

Sorry, bad joke, but it had to be done!

I had no idea you pitched that movie, Jet! I love that film. Have you gotten anything else made into a movie?

Great film, I got to see it a few months back. The niece, and nephew have the dvd and love it.

My favorite line came during the 'save the citizen' test, when Mr. Boy turns to Mr. Medulia and says "remember when we used to use real citizens"?

Great movie Jet-enjoyed it very much. Especially the conclusion- when Will had the combined powers of mom and dad- (AKA Superman type powers-- flight and super strength)

Wow - i can't tell you how much this means to me guys. thank you so much.

As for me working on other films - if I were to list all the things I have been involved with --- credit it seems is a harsh mistress with me. There are some things I absolutely didn't deserve credit on - three or four weeks worth of work doing nips and tucks here and there - then there are others that have literally made me want to burn my guild card and dance around the flames. The bigger the project the more people there are who want the ink.

Right now I'm working on a script with Terry Rossio and have two others that the studios are searching for directors. Instant karma (the first script I ever wrote and sold - 14yrs ago) is now in the hands of Sony and they have a great group of people over there who seem to want to finally make it. i wrote and directed an episode of Turbo Dates for the web and hopefully am directing an episode of a certain tv show that I know has plenty of fans on this board.

you'd think a guy who loved superheroes would be okay with taking to the air - but tomorrow morning i hit the skies to Hawaii and my stomach is a knot - Japan will be after that - but for some reason I'm used to that flight.

i really do appreciate all the praise for Sky High - I'm proud of her still and one day I need to upload all the behind the scene stuff I shot with my camcorder - including Bruce Campbell telling a funny story about Robert Conrad and Brisco County and Kurt Russell discussing Used Cars. i think the thing Mike did that makes that movie a little more than normal Disney is he pulled comedians in from everywhere - Kids in the Hall, Broken Lizard, and so on. Maybe one day they'll do a sequel - they still talk about it from time to time - i mean if they did one for Tron 30 years later - who knows.

And Yes - Mary Elizabeth is my favorite as well.

I actually Netflixed it(yes, I used that as a verb) and watched it two weeks ago for the first time.

My wife was a bit apprehensive at first. My wife and I both enjoyed it also.

Add me as another lover of this movie. Hubby and I went to see it when it initially hit theaters and both of us walked out with big grins. We also picked it up on dvd when it came out and watch it fairly frequently in tandem with the Incredibles when we want to watch a couple of fun superhero flicks.

    Good job, Jet!

We love it and own it too.

I actually have two connections to the film (assuming that you can say you "know" the writer of a film just becasue you two frequent the same message board ). I went to college with Jim Rash who played the dad/henchman of Royal Pain. He was a good character actor even then.

I'd have liked to see more from the Kids in the Hall guys... we all know they can "do much more" that what they were allowed to do... even if it is a Disney film.

I loved Sky High too! We saw it the day before it hit you landlubbers theaters. We saw the midnight showing on a Disney Cruise off the coast of Mehico!!! I enjoyed it! I was hoping to see Wonder Woman don her tights again but that would have been asking for too much!!!

Dude, I love Sky High!!!! I love the camp in it, the winks and nods to comic fandom. Linda Carters line is my favorite ( I am not Wonder Woman you know). Great cast and Great story idea. Such a great cast, Kurt Russel, Linda Carter, Bruce (the chin) Campbell, TWO Kids in the Hall illumnists, one Broken Lizard, and the list goes on.

Jet Beetle I may need to get another copy of the DVD and send it your to sign.
