Fantastic Four

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I don't care who the hell else they cast in the movie, so long as they get Michael Chiklis back as The Thing. He owned that role.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

The challenge with a FF reboot is capturing the complex family relationships between the characters. This is more important with FF than with just about any other superhero property and where most films get it wrong. The casting is a critical part of this, of course - and it's especially challenging to cast all four roles appropriately IMO. It's going to be tough to bring that together. I hope they realize it.
Casting FF is like casting Firefly in that respect...

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I'll second Crews for Thing.
If they absolutely HAVE to have their token black man, then I want Crews for Grimm.
I think that'd be pretty badass.

That's how i feel and don't' go making characters suddenly a new race just to be hip and cool. Make new characters but quit messing with established characters.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

Thing should be CGI, just like Hulk in avengers.
I love Terry Crews, but I don't think his voice suits Thing very well. I can't picture him saying "It's clobberin' time!"

You know the movie 'Hook' with Robin Williams? You know that the people that made that movie knew nothing about Peter Pan!

The Peter Pan I know, would never let a black child become a lost boy, let alone leave the title of Pan to an Asian kid. No Sir! And seriously, Tinker Bell was a caring and nice fairy? Give me a break!

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I know it's a shame that there aren't more good diverse super hero's. But let's be honest these characters were created a long time ago by people that drew from their own experiences. Most hero's were created by white Jewish kids in the 50's-70's. I also don't disagree that there needs to be some new characters created to illustrate how different we are as a global community than when these characters where created initially. But to blatantly disregard the character's heritage for PC issues or to try and draw in a different audience not only does the character an injustice but also the race that the producer's are pandering to. If I were Black or Asian (which by now I think you have guessed), I would be more upset that they felt the need to throw me a bone instead of telling a good story with good characters.

There's no problem with new characters being black but you don't go messing around with established characters, it's how you alienate an audience. They could easily add more minority characters but they don't need to go messing with the leads. I mean they made the blind chick in the other FF movies black and it worked out. The world is too worried about everyone feeling special and being politically correct at the expense of good entertainment. It's just one of those things. you're always going to have traditionalists and folks willing to change things as they see fit.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I don't see anything wrong with some diversifying and even changing some character traits/aspects for some things. Times change, people change... we adapt, we overcome, we evolve.

But, something just doesn't feel right about Johnny Storm being played by a black guy. I've got no issue with Sam Jackson taking over Nick Fury's role... but to me, Sue and Johnny's relationship is a huge part of FF - and making him or her adopted or a step-sibling just doesn't cut it for me. This just seems like change for change sake and not for the story or storyline or even because Jordan's a great actor.

The FF was my favorite comic as kid/teenager... and yeah, the movies with Alba and Evans were pretty horrific - but, this sounds bad and it hasn't evenbeen filmed yet.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

The key to getting FF right is understanding that the team is unlike any other team of superheroes in that they're a family. They should have that chemistry between the actors. Without that family dynamic they're going to be pretty mediocre.

Re: Fantastic Four Reboot

I've never really understood the whole "family" thing. Three of them are related but Ben is not. How is he family? He's just really close friend.

I'm a firefighter and I work with 20+ other guys that I consider brothers. You don't necessarily have to be blood related to be part of a "family."

Terrible FANTASTIC FOUR Story Details Confirmed By Fox Legal Action? | Badass Digest
Looks like 20th Century Fox strives to be the least fan friendly studio ever. Besides Slashfilm, AICN got a similar legal notice.

And I was shocked when I found out recently from Art Andrews that they sent RPF several C&D to remove some of the pics we shared from Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past, even though most were promo photos while some were set pics. One of them was the script leak screen shot, which is understandable but others don't make any sense.
