I agree with MooCriket and actually you can get away with saying alot in a PG13 movie. I know in the commentary on one of the later Scary Movies they said that you can get 1 f-bomb per movie if you do it right and you can say most other stuff a couple of times.
Just got back from the midnight show, and WOW! Talk about ridiculousness. Little story, over-the-top violence, barely any acting, and it was AWESOME! Sure you could understand Bane and Batman better than these guys, but who cares? A great action ride from beginning to end.
My three-word review: Go see it.
I'll be back.... to see it again.
Outstanding! Looking forward to seeing this tomorrow night. I'm a little worried though, as I have heard that men in the premiere audience have become pregnant from the sheer awesomeness of this film.
Best movie EVER!
LOVED IT!
THIS is what action movies SHOULD be!
My friends and I saw it last night. Two of our group were females, and they loved it as much as us guys did. All the one-liners, recognizable phrases, etc. were exactly what was needed. This raises toungue-in-cheek moviemaking into an art form.
Going to take my Mom and Dad to see it for sure. (Hey, Mom loved the last "Rambo" and the first "Expendables".)
If rhey do get Clint Eastwood for the next one, they will just have to retire the action-movie genre. Sly, Arnie, Bruce, Clint, everyone else... It'll be too epic!
Loved it as well,
I think I'm right in thinking that there was no swearing in any scenes Chuck was involved in, that might of been the compromise they came to in the end.
I'll check when I go watch it again
Okay...that was AWESOME!!! Way better than the first for me, and I actually enjoyed JCVD!
So chucky is ok with killing someone, but certain words trouble him?
Anyone interested in the pen that Sly used in Expendables II? Here's a dramatic reading of the product description.
Chaos Pen: A Dramatic Reading
Went and saw it last night, while I enjoyed it, I didn't think it was any better or worse than the first. I did like the subtle reference to Chuck as the lone wolf as in Lone Wolf McQuade. I had to explain that reference to a buddy!! LOL!!
The only thing I think that they could have done better was cut some of the unnecessary 'filler' scenes and improved the fight scenes. Vandamme could have been a much better adversary. I expected to see a lot more fighting out of him, and at least one of these faces:
I just thought he deserved more action screen time.
Expendables 2 - OMG what a movie. If you have a drop of testosterone in you, it'll turn it into an ocean. Sly Stallone is a bloody genius, love it!
Saw it last night. On par with the first one. A fun 90 minutes. I could have done without all of the Swarzenegger "I'm back", "I'll Be Back" lines. Not that the dialogue in these films is Shakespear or anything, but people were groaning in the theater, not laughing.
I saw it opening day, and I've got to tell ya. This is the most hollowed out, empty action movie I think I've ever seen. That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, but gosh. Even the most basic action movies that I've seen over the years at least had some semblance of a plot with motivated characters. Who does JVD work for? Some tattoo parlor that likes goats. Who is he selling the plutonium to? Don't know. Why is he selling plutonium? Don't know. And if you keep stuffing your villain with "in your face!" evil moments like shooting a sick worker and telling everyone to rally the women and children to work, you're not telling a story. Your force feeding me stuff that I already get.
And who's idea was it to put a Wesley Crusher into this movie? Billy was so innocent, so handsome, so talented and so in your face pure that I almost suffocated. Seeing all the real action heroes I came to see marvel at him just for running up a hill had me laughing. He just ran up a hill! Billy wasn't a character, he was a walking clichι with zero substance. His death on the other hand was awesome. Not only was it well played, but he was out of the picture!
And while I did like hearing Chuck Norris give us one of his facts, everyone else spewing their classic one-liners and mocking each other in ways that would only make sense to action movie buffs got old real fast.
I did enjoy some of it, I just wish it had more.... substance?
Yeah, I feel the same way. I liked how they were, essentially, poking fun at the movies they all made way back when but I agree that the story line could've used a bit more beef. Now, I didn't go in expecting anything amazing with the story but I had some hopes that it wouldn't just be like the action version of a porno flick (which it was.)
That said, it was entertaining and even though I probably wouldn't pay to see it again, it wasn't a supremely terrible movie.
I thought that you could really tell that Sly didn't do the directing this go round.
