Hanging out with my kid on memorial day weekend and Spike was running a Star Wars marathon. We tuned in whenever time permitted. Tried to introduce her to the pivotal moments. But in the end, she fell asleep. That is, right before she exclaimed, "Every single detail about these movies get's an F - !!!" Woke up just in time to see Wicket and began a new interest. She likes Ewoks. Go figure.

Funny, I have the same opinion of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Avatar.

Yep, looks like it's time for the last resort, the Jar Jar test. Only if all else fails. If even that doesn't work, and she still doesn't like Star Wars, I'm sorry, you've failed us all. Just kidding.

Well, in her defense, it does take a certain type to enjoy a film like that.

Well, some people are uninterested in things they perceive as "unrealistic," and others simply don't care for sci-fi. Some might find the prequels dull and the OT dated and cheesy. Not saying I agree, but if your idea of a great film is Couple's Retreat or Hang 'Em High or Old School, perhaps Star Wars won't hit your hot button. My wife likes romantic comedies. My dad's fond of westerns. Both of them loathe Star Wars. Different strokes for different folks.

    Of course, they're wrong.

Missed the Marathon on Spike, but did show the girls (8 and 4) - ESB and ROTJ last week. Unfortunately they were the special editions, but they didn't mind.

One thing that stood out to me was my 8 year old and the following comment.

"Those Taun-Tauns look like that unrealistic stuff from the other movie we watched with the robot owl."

I had shown them the classic Clash of the Titans a few months ago.

Last night we watched Superman Returns and she didn't trust Superman one bit...

"It's Shaw from Chuck. He works for the Ring!"

She also pegged Kitty's being a decoy for Lex's museum heist right off the bat

    I love kids.

You ought to see how they both get regarding Doctor Who.

    -Gary

P.S. - At the OKC Art Musuem we were in a gallery and she just blurted out "Behold the hall of Pre-K Art!!". Considering the "art" was just blobs of watercolor on loose leaf notebook paper I think her assesment was pretty spot-on.

    Like my father...
Sometimes I put on a dvd for the family, the last time I did put Hellboy 2, he fell asleep right on (working all day ins't that forgiving...), then he woke up at the end and said: "the first one was better"
Of course, I said, you watched it!

Hey... guess the sleep induced dream that came from listening to the movie was worse than the first one...!?

Some people find "lasers in space and stuff" to be uninteresting and they don't have the desire or capacity to enjoy films of that kind.

My daughter can't stand them either. I take it with a grain of salt.

When my niece was 3 years old she knew about Darth Vader long before she even knew about Star Wars.

But once she saw it she was dressing up as Princess Leia complete with hair buns (of course courtesy of a tailored costume I had made for her).

I cannot see how Star Wars wouldn't speak to a child....it is a space western, a fairy tail.

Growing up I couldn't watch Star Wars. I remember they would show the original trilogy in elementary school at the end of the year and I would fall asleep or go wander the halls to occupy my time. I rewatched the movies when I was a teenager (Right before the SE versions) and thought they were great.

I have only had a couple of girls I have ever dated really enjoy Star Wars, honestly. Two fell asleep watching...my current has never seen them all the way through and refuses to watch....although she still has a stuffed Ewok from when she was a kid that she took everywhere with her....so she gets a little bit of credit, even if it is a damn ewok. As long as she can handle my props I figure I'm fine
