If anybody here has seen the movie or read the reviews please refrain from posting the outcome of the movie.
Isn't the point of a 'post-release' thread to discuss spoilers? There's already a DKR thread that should be kept spoiler free, but to not discuss the outcome in what should be a spoiler thread seems kinda silly.

    from the recent thread -

yea *this* thread is a bit early. And hopefully anyone posting a review would mark the title with "SPOILERS"

As I was just looking at this .gif those guns on front take a BEATING!

You're right JD, this thread is to discuss spoilers. But we would prefer the major outcome of the movie to remain unspoiled at least until the July 20 weekend. It's all good after that. (I have updated my original post to reflect this now).

There are times when people have seen the movie at early screenings or read the early reviews and want to discuss it immediately. And the posted spoilers here could tend to spill over to the other thread unintentionally by other members. So just wanted to avoid that and hence gave a heads up about it .

Then why not just delay this thread until July 20th? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense at all.

What's the point of having a thread for spoilers if you're going to not allow a spoiler?!?

People should be intelligent enough to realize just what a spoiler thread is. If they come to this thread where it's clearly posted 'post release' - it's reasonable to suggest that spoilers are here. If they don't want spoilers or discussion, well - then they're in the wrong thread.

Sorry, Vivek - you're rationale makes zero sense to me and I'm not sure why you're making it that much more difficult to discuss this film than it needs to be. As far as I could see there were no exceptions like this for any other recent film (Spider-Man or Prometheus both come to mind) - and I think it's unfair to limit the discussion because of some 'magic date.'

I like the idea of a spoiler and a non-spoiler thread for movies - this was a very good idea. When you start adding stipulations you're just making it that much more difficult to keep the discussions flowing and you're just blurring the line even further between the spoiler/non-spoiler threads.

I ask that you reconsider this as it's just silly to limit a spoiler based on personal preferences. It's micro-managing when your efforts as forum leader might be best elsewhere.

Yeah, I agree. A thread should either be spoiler free or anything goes. What you might consider "too spoilery" might not meen anything to me, you know?

Cause the movie and reviews are already out there today and I wanted to give members a platform in case they wish to discuss the reviews or even for those who have already seen the film.

Discussing the movie now about most plot lines and spoilers in this thread is fine, that is indeed the purpose of this thread.

But the final outcome or fatality of a key character is something I felt would be better off not discussed in full detail until July 20. That is what I was mainly going with when I referred to it as the major outcome of the movie.

Sorry you felt that way JD, I sure don't want to stifle any potential discussions due to my actions. And I understand it seems self-contradictory when I am asking not to discuss spoilers in a spoilers thread. But for the time being it was only in regards to the major final spoiler in the movie and not in its entirety. Though it seemed like a personal preference, it is more to do with the fact that in-spite of not having seen the movie most are tempted to the know the general consensus of the movie and would end up reading the spoilers thread, in which case the key spoiler is better off not discussed openly just yet. But if necessary could be posted using the spoiler tags.

Ha..thanks Dave. Yeah I am indeed excited .

But I sure don't want anyone to feel that my excitement is getting the best of me while trying to manage my role in this forum.

It's one of the most anticipated movies of this year and very rarely is there a superhero movie where the lead character's death is so widely speculated or even remotely considered as a possibility.

So I felt it's acceptable to at least have that one element of mystery remain contained for everyone else on this forum till July 20, so that they can discover it themselves.

This is without a doubt one of the silliest thing's I've ever seen come out of this forum.

The Dark Knight Rises gets special attention as to not spoil it in its own spoiler thread.

A truly WTF moment if I've ever seen one. It's not about 'what I feel' as Vivek stated in his post - it's about common sense.

It's decidely unfair to give this movie special attention because the forum leader doesn't want to be spoiled or is excited about the film.

...not to mention the directive 'do not spoil the outcome' (in a spoiler thread) is very vague.

Is it just about Batman's (possible) death? What about the Joseph Gordon Levitt rumors? What about what happens to Catwoman/Bane/Gordon? These plotlines all have their own outcomes.

If you don't want to be "spoiled", just don't read any Dark Knight threads until after the release.

When Prometheus was released internationally one week prior to US, a similar opening post was made asking to use spoiler tags until the US release.

JD, the opening post for this thread has nothing to do with me preventing myself being spoiled or cause I am excited for this movie. I only requested it so that anybody reading or browsing through the spoilers thread can do so without spoiling the final outcome of the film for themselves.

You're right, my mistake. I should have been more clear on that. Yes, there are other outcomes and spoilers in the film but obviously Batman's death is something more widely speculated upon. And I only suggested this cause it's very rare for most theatre goers these days to experience a big studio film (be it TDKR, Prometheus or others) without being totally spoiled before its release. If not on this forum, people are bound to be spoiled else where. So I thought we could have this forum thread to discuss the film and reviews without necessarily giving away the ending, at least till its release. But I certainly didn't expect that decision to be met with such criticism. Lesson Learned .

The Prometheus thread allowed ALL spoilers:

"Though posting spoilers in this thread is fair game, due to the high anticipatory nature of this film we request members to continue using SPOILERS warning if not spoiler tags in midst of their postings in case they choose to reveal or discuss any major plot scenarios, please try implementing this till next weekend."

It was quite clear and open in what you posted in the opening post of the Prometheus thread that any and all spoilers were fair game.

While I think it's kinda silly to use spoiler tags in a spoiler thread (no real need to nanny the the oblivious), it's certainly much more acceptable than outright forbidding certain spoiler discussion... which still amazes me that you've done this and that you can't see how this hurts the discussion and the forum overall.

...and with all due respect I do think your excitement for the film is clouding your judgement here. You're clearly excited for the film and I do think it's gotten the best of you - again, total speculation and based on the discussion. Nothing wrong with being excited:
Ha..thanks Dave. Yeah I am indeed excited .

You find it acceptable to "basically censor" and/or stifle potential discussion because you feel that an element should remain a mystery?

Sorry, I disagree - I think it's just silly to pick and chose what movies you discuss certain spoilers for. ...and yes, I'm aware and supportive that this is a private forum and certain thing's need to tread upon lightly, but is spoiling certain parts of Dark Knight Rises one of them?!? I'm not even sure why this is an issue - spoilers are fair game for EVERY OTHER MOVIE released - but, not this ONE!?!? Makes no sense.

If folks don't want the outcome of Dark Knight Rises spoiled - they've been warned. Why is there a further need/want to further supress them discussing that here when you can for any other movie that comes out? I don't think because you "feel it's acceptable" is a real good answer for that. I hope you're fairer about decisions like this in the future... 'cause this is not a fair decision and it does not lend itself to open discussion and it says a lot about your ability to moderate a forum successfully.

I can't believe there aren't better issues for you to care of on this forum rather than deciding what spoilers for just one movie we can discuss. Even worse how you can't see how this is just a ridiculous decision and what waste of resources it is to micromanage what spoilers we can or cannot talk about.

But, I was very calm when I wrote in this thread. Still am. They're just words on a screen, I can't help how they're interpreted sometimes. ...and sometimes they just come out a little more 'tense' then they're meant.
