D.C.'s Gotham tv series

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

I have high hopes and very low expectations for this show. What was that OTHER show several years back with batwoman or sumthin like that? I never watched it

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

I'm hoping that the bruce wayne we see on the show won't get acquainted with anybody else personally other than Gordon maybe, and only because of the murder of his parents. I sure as hell hope they don't go the smallville way with bruce, he should not do anything batmanesque other than start training maybe, and start thinking about the batman. That way it could fit with Batfleck somehow.
But it would definitely not work indeed if they go the smallville road.
At least Arrow time frame and story would work, so I'm still hoping they at least connect this to the movie universe.

He's supposedly 12...how is going to get acquainted with the villains? Are they all going to in the same Junior High School? Are they going to be the class bullies or something?

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

I don't see how this can tie in with Batman myth. I know Nolan changed it up but Bruce traveled the world learning how to fight and think and do all the cool stuff Batman does. As a kid he almost flunked out of school because unless it had something to do with crime fighting ie. chemistry he showed no interest. That begs the question are we going to have an annoying little boy following Gordon around asking questions? If you want to give Gordon a more complete back story and introduce us to the we will eventually be super villains crowd I could handle that. Are we going to see Gordon try and take down Jack Napier or looking into suspicious and questionable dealing of Oswald Cobblepot? If that's the case it might have some legs but from what we have seen and talked about so far I'm not getting my hopes up.

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

nope, i still dont like it, especially cause it makes no sense. suddenly all those batman characters have been around all the time during his childhood? makes no sense.
feels like they wanted to do a cop show, and to get viewers, they crammed in some batman references, that make no sense.

also the ages of all the actors make no sense. catwoman is older than batman? riddler is like 20 years older than batman? all of this is riddiculous

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

I don't see how it makes no sense for Penguin to be in the mob before he became a boss, or for Poison Ivy and Catwoman to be kids that are a little older than Bruce Wayne and who also happen to live in Gotham.

I'll agree that it's kinda goofy to have Riddler be an adult, considering that he'll be probably be pushing forty once Batman shows up, but 'makes no sense' is harsh.

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

Why do they keep doing these log drawn out shows!?!?? Just make a batman show!!!

This is why I like Arrow. In the First episode you get Arrow you don't have to wait ten seasons

I was skeptical about this but after that trailer I agree with EyeofSauron. This makes zero sense to me as well, plus Gordon all of a sudden becomes Wanes mentor.

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

I still prefer the "Gotham Central" type of story telling to this. Seeing good, if a bit rough honest cops trying to work with Gotham's massive crime rate and coping with the idea that Batman is doing a lot better than they are always made for good story telling.

Re: D.C.'s Gotham City tv series

I think it's a big mistake when stories or reboots have to tie in every single relationship and arc.
It really diminishes the scale of a narrative when every principle character shares a past, present and future.
Star Wars used to be much more interesting and ...pluripotent when it was still about diverse characters. For me it died after 1980 when it became all about the Skywalker family and friends.

Why are writers so fascinated with creating incestuous orgies with character arcs?

Interestingly Marvel is doing the complete opposite by expanding their universe instead of shrinking it.
And I think that's already proving to be a much more successful formula.

Not just that, but they also aren't having their heroes be bound by some kind of "destiny". Tony Stark becomes Iron Man by himself, Eric Banner becomes the Hulk by accident, Steve Rogers volunteers to test this super serum that nobody knows will work, and the one character who brags about how glorious his destiny is turns out to be a total wuss and doesn't become important until he casts that whole destiny stuff out the window. That's cool stuff.
