CLONE WARS weekly discussion thread

well, good thing I have Netflix... I see a marathon in my future! I wonder how long they will keep the episodes on Netflix... they have a habit of removing content after a year if you have their basic package.

- - - Updated - - -

now this quote baffles me... "Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first time any Star Wars content has been available for Netflix streaming members."
that's not true because I watched the Star Wars the Clone Wars film on Netflix because I never went to the theater to see it.. it wasn't on Netflix for long.. about a month or two but it was indeed streamed on netflix a couple of year ago because that's how I got to see it!

As I said above Netflix and Disney have entered into a long term content distribution deal. Not only will CW remain on Netflix, but at some point the OT and PT will make their way over as well. I should note I am an investor in both Netflix and Disney and a financial advisor.

cool... but can you verify with me that Star Wars: The Clone Wars film did indeed stream on Netflix a couple of years ago... I know it was on there because it was the only reason why I got to see it yet the official site is saying "Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first time any Star Wars content has been available for Netflix streaming members."

I don't recall and it would not be part of their financial statement from the time. As streaming services compete it's not uncommon for content creators to do trial runs with distributors and then pull back. What is likely is LucasFilm was talking to Netflix about distribution at some point but then pulled the content, perhaps because they felt they might create their own channel online for LucasFilm content. A lot of studios have that dream but lack the infrastructure. But now that Disney owns LF and Disney is not interested in being a streaming service, they enter into this agreement.

interesting.. thanks.. ya, must have been a trial run or something because I recall it only being on netflix for a very short time... like a couple months at most. I recall being excited to see it listed on Netflix and watched it... then a few months later I was on a trip and was bored one night so pulled up netflix on my laptop to watch it again and it was no longer listed.
I guess I got lucky to have caught it when I did. Nice to see it all going to netflix! Sounds to me like this new disney connection with netflix is going to make your investment all that more sound!

I`ll pass on Netflix the episodes will go up on Netflix and be ready to download less then 30 minutes later. I wont download or stream I`ll wait two months. buy the entire series with all the extra`s on DVD. I don`t do streaming. it`s a waste of bandwidth.

However.. Happy to finally have the final few episodes that were ready to be shown on tcn!

In the end 13 episodes of The Clone Wars versus Killing the Expanded Universe, Killing The Clone Wars, Killing Detours, Killing 1313 Killing two other games ready to launch, Exclusive gaming deals with E/a who already lost that war with TOR, Killing the comics (exclusive with Marvel who already failed) Killing the Novels Killing the Action Figure Lines... In the end Disney can go **** itself!

wow.
well, I see it this way... George Lucas was pretty much done with star wars... other than the clone wars cartoon and detours, he had no more interest in making star wars movies.. he said there was nothing else to tell and he was through with it... having sold it to Disney and Disney letting Lucasfilm do what it does best we are now getting more star wars.. more movies, expanded universe movies (yes, those one off "origin movies" I consider EU) and more star wars cartoons.
With Rebels on TV and a new movie every year I feel star wars is back and the fun is back... no they won't be as good as or better than the OT (for which came out at just the right time and was cutting edge for its day [feeling nostalgic?] ) It will still be fun star wars movies.... If GL held the property to his grave and hadn't sold it to disney we wouldn't have any star wars to look forward to.
I just don't understand the hate for it all and the flipping of the bird at Disney. Its a business.... a lucrative one and Disney has the means. GL was no longer interested. Nice to know that Lucasfilm has the financial backing to stay alive and keep going!

Ah ok well i like your optimizim how ever Rebels is set to premier soon enjoy it along with the cross over of Phineus and Ferb Disney Xds only selling show. i see this as Disney using star wars to get the younger audience intrested in its craptacular programing. Rebels will be on air long enough to get Disney XD`s ratings up and then they will remove it slowly to make way for more of their Garbage programming.

As far as One offs being EU wrong there called Origin Stories. EU is where they Got Mara Jade from where they can even make a Inquisitor from because once the EU is wiped its only Vader and Plaps no other sith! rule of two and all that. which again no EU no other siths Just vader and Plapatine Plageuis isn`t Plaps Former master he`s a vague sith legend. Darth Plageuis the wise. nothing more. . no EU no action figure sales in the 500,000,000.00 in a non movie year. The Expanded Universe is pretty much why alot of people still care about this franchise. lets face it the original 3 were awesome but time erases all memories of these things unless its added to or remembered with zero tv deals no deals to release the trilogy to say The Movie Network or other these movies were left in a back closet in limbo! only when Lucas felt he could milk more cash by changing parts of it did it get any release! so to push the EU aside in favor of Kathleen Kennedy`s ideas of what should and should not be is just wrong! JJ no issues about directing alot of issues with writting There are literally a ton of great writers from the EU that should have gotten a chance! Zahn Anderson alot of them!

:lol yes, I'll be watching and enjoying it very much... that and season 6 of Clone Wars on Netflix in March... all the more Star Wars fun for me. Its a cartoon.. don't be so darn serious about it... after all, you decry Disney Killing Detours and that was just a silly comedic take on star wars! so you were looking forward to that show but not Rebels? :confused

Re: StarWars.com Reveals How the Unreleased CW episodes will air

Okay, so how do I fit this on the shelf next to the other five seasons?

That will happen. But for now I suspect netflix has paid a nice sum of money in order to have the exclusive rights of the episodes. It is original programming like this that netflix hopes to become the major streaming service. They know by doing things like this, it will draw in new customers. Maybe new to the streaming world or those from Amazon, Hulu, etc... It's no different than original programing for a network. They air it first and then later they sell it.

Wow, talk about misplaced anger. You do realize that an entirely new universe of novels, comics, games, toys, ect. is going to be created based on far more content them this franchise has ever had ?

thank you Bryan! He wants and defends EU but when new EU comes out he scoffs and ridicules it because its distributed by Disney! If Rebels was distributed on Cartoon Network or a book series written by Timothy Zahn or published by Dark Horse comics he'd be all over it! :facepalm

Actually I scoffed at Disney Using Rebels to promo its current line up Ie Phineaus and Ferb as announced months ago that all of a sudden Phineaus and Ferb have a summer home on Tatooine and end up involved in the pilot,

As well as Defending the EU, Destroying literally dozens of great characters just because YOUR chosen writers did not write them and other items just because you have what amounts to a child`s spat with CN is a bit childish in the end!

Oh wait though I`m just blowing smoke right? Phineas and Ferb Meets Star Wars in Special Episode | StarWars.com That is my problem with Rebels it will be used to prop up their floundering line up by doing crossover episodes to attempt to get fans of the franchise more into shows of Disney!

So no it`s not misplaced its directed exactly where it belongs!

As far as "New" Cannon so they will be removing Mara Jade from Rebels right? as they have her action figure cardback on display it`s old EU. oh wait now this skunt is going to pick and choose what cannon she wants to remain? oh ok so during 1985 1986 1987 1988 1989 1990 19-99 2000-2014 when the prequels fell to the way side who was it that was holding the franchise together? That's Right the EU...at a price tag of 500,000,000.00 per non movie year.

Sorry I watched the originals in theater these are my fandom your damn right I`ll fight tooth and nail to stop this mentally challenged Duck and Anger ridden mouse from destroying it!, Agree Do not Agree that is your right your no more wrong than I am right, it`s my opinion it`s shared across the fandom by true diehards and that's that!. Now that Disney has the rights maybe they should scrap episode 7 and remake 1-6 with an all new cast half the story and crappy effects seems to be the in thing to do now just ask the recent bomb Robocop!

Yeah, it's not about content, he's being too precious in regards to who are the only ones he feels should make that content .
Wrong entirely new content is welcome, just stop trashing what already exists! Kind of like Krypton did not need a whole new reason to be destroyed Robocop did not need a whole new film to destroy the memory of the original (Flopped as expected).

It`s kind of like this, You do not take the X-Men and turn them into The Ex-Men an all woman team yet Disney's marvel just did that too!.

Cause next stop is Remakes of the originals, and as the people who were on set have said time and time again these films can never be remade, Be it the true art of the story as told or just the perfection in the final product you will never recreate the results of these three films and the prequels proved it right!

Surely you are not so pedantic to not see the contradiction in what you are saying? You say you welcome new content but insist that the previous EU be maintained. But if they maintain the current EU in a canonical sense, then there can be no new content in regards to the core characters, it's already been vetted by the existing EU.

I was 9 when SW hit theaters so that also qualifies me as am "original" fan. And I have read and enjoyed 85% of the EU. Despite your contention to the contrary, I am a due hard fan. I even live the PT. Yet somehow I have the emotional maturity to realize that in order to create new film content, the post ROTJ EU must be vacated. It doesn't ruin those stories or by enjoyment if them, but I would rather remove them from canon to get brand new content.

Also hate to break it to you but Mara Jade does not exist in SW official canon and thus can not be "removed" from Rebels .

When I heard Disney bought LFL and they were going to make new Star Wars movie, the first thing I said to my family was, "I hope they toss out as much EU as they can." Most of that stuff sucks. If I didn't know better, I'd say most of those authors are not fans of the movies. They seem too concerned about trying to make their own mark in the SW universe with cool gadgets and cool characters. And why the hell do authors feel the need to take every frickin' little detail from the movies and explain them. Corellian blood stripes? Why can't they just be a a clothing detail? Maybe Han likes pants from a particular manufacture who puts stripes on pants. They even try to explain the colors. I'd rather have an entire movie trilogy about Jar Jar reading the dictionary than keep that garbage around.

So what if they cancelled some games? There will be more. A month after a game is released, people are moving on anyhow. If a game does not have online play, I don't care. I have more excitement about Attack Squadron, more fans have been clamoring for a return to the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games of old.

And Detours? Really? You feel like you suffered a loss in life because that never saw the light of day?

BTW: Disney is not destroying the action figure lines, Hasbro is doing that themselves.

Oh and something else I'll throw out here just for the sake of ranting. Rogue Squadron is EU as well.
