    Jun 21, 2012 - Brave (Post-release) #1

It was clever and entertaining. The animation was spectacular..especially the character's hair.

What I really enjoyed was how little I knew about the story and film prior to seeing it. That really added to the experience. This was an original story and a new direction for Pixar and I was glad to see it. It was great to see them being creative and original again, not just milkng the Disney toy sales like Cars 2 and Toy Story 3 (which was great mind you). I was never a fan of Cars or Cars 2...they are Ok movies but not my thing.

The animated short before was very clever and fun. I am a fan of all of Pixar's shorts...and this one was no exception. Very cute.

There were a few trailers..one for Finding Nemo in 3D and a Monsters Inc sequel..Monsters University I believe it was called. Very funny trailer.

Overall a great night out and my son and I had fun. I had a bit of an issue trying to get a Spider-man cup for my son. When we were let into the theater they took our cell phones and put them in bags they matched with tickets. Once we got our seats we went to get popcorn, when I realized my wallet and cell phone are all in one wallet so I had to ask one of the security guys for my wallet portion back. He gave me grief because they were busy getting people scanned to go in the theater. Once I got my wallet back I went to buy snacks. I wanted the Spiderman combo so I could get the cup. The girl needed my Scene card to sell me the combo. I explained that I don't carry the card..but use the Scene card app in my phone that security has now. She would NOT sell me the combo OR the darn cup! I refused to give up as my son was excited for it..and she asked someone else then came back and said she couldn't sell it to me. Grrr!!! I told my son in front of her, "Sorry they won't sell us the cup." When I paid for our snacks I used my bank card that also says Scene on it. I showed her but that wasn't enough. GRR! After the movie we looked around for an cups that got left behind..and even asked one guy who was leaving with one (in case he was going to toss it out). No luck! I tried one more time and went to the concession and asked a guy this time. I explained that I wanted the cup with my combo earlier, but wasn't about to spend another $20 for another combo (now that I had my phone with the scene app back)..I just wanted a cup. He said..I can just sell you a large drik and give you the cup. I said, "That's all I wanted in the first place with the other girl." and agreed. I asked him to just fill it with water and my son got his cup. He loved it and slept with the Spider-man straw all night. I pulled it from his sleeping hand this morning. I just refuse to give up sometimes!

Tonight I get to see a screening of Ted. That should be fun.

    Jun 21, 2012 - re: Brave (Post-release) #2

Glad to hear you liked it, my girlfriend and I have been looking forward to seeing it for a while now. I too will be going in knowing pretty much nothing at all about the actual plot, which is nice. Definitely looks like a breath of fresh air, as far as Pixar movies go. Most recent one I saw was "Up", which I thought was great. I also thought it was surprisingly depressing. I never did see either of the "Cars" films. I tend to stay far away from anything involving Larry the Cable Guy.

I'll be leaving for New Orleans for a week this Saturday, I plan on seeing it Friday with the GF. Looking forward to it.

I think we're going to try to see it this weekend.

The only review I need to hear is "Pixar's done it again". If that's the case, then I'll be happy.

Ebert's review was positive, but he said he thought that this was Pixar moving more into the Disney fairy tale ending territory and didn't have as much depth as previous Pixar films did for their adult audiences.

But I'll still check it out.

Still debating a midnight showing or not. God willing it will be better than Cars 2, that's all I ask.

It is. The short before is better than Cars 2.

Oh by the way...I saw the Pizza Planet truck..but would love a second opinion as it was a QUICK shot.
    Spoiler:
In the witch's hut...there are some quick shots of her in different places with wood carvings. One SURE looks like the Pizza Planet truck.

That's not saying much, every short is better than Cars 2. Michael Bay films are better than Cars 2.

Sounded good..didn't really focus on it much. Don't think my theater had that Dolby Atmos as I didn't see that logo.

Andrew Stanton just confirmed on Twitter that it is indeed there. I still didn't read your spoiler as I want to discover it for myself and be surprised.

Damn, I didn't think to look for the truck there. Wish I'd read that spoiler so I could look for it.

Overall it was fun. Not Pixar's best effort, but it wasn't Cars 2 either thankfully.

Jeyl's quick rundown before bed time.

I was so relieved that the corset wasn't the reason Merida was uncomfortable.

Also, I curse whoever demanded a title change. Brave does not suit this film at all.

I forgot about that.. it was originally The Bear and the Bow, wasn't it?

Ever since I first heard the (final) name, I thought it was a movie about Native Americans.

I am wanting to costume this, especially the hair! Thick, thick mane of red and orange ringlets and frizz!

I think the title works...as you have to be brave to control your destiny. The Bear and Bow reveals one element I was 100% not expecting which made me experience the moment with the main character...

The film was good. It wasn't original and very predictable. It was still a nice film.

Wished for a little bit of more of an adventure. It seemed very short.

For what it was? It was a good film. Pixar definitely has a certain style, and they seem to manage to do quite well rather consistantly. It was a nice fresh breath of air, without all of the usual stuff. Granted there was fighting, but, I will say it was more for the story than just to have action. The friends I was with thought it was okay. And it was, but for the target audience, it is a good film. Pixar traditionally aims for younger families, right? It was a perfect family movie. If I had kids, yeah I'd take them to see it.
In regards to the truck, I love the way Pixar adds in their little Easter Eggs.

Saw this Friday night with the GF, and loved it. It might not have been a mind blowingly original story or anything, but it was still very entertaining, and fun. Definitely recommended.

    It is, but only just.
There's something weird going on with Pixar's features lately.
Maybe I'm just unfairly holding everything up to "Up"-level expectations.

Thankfully, the short, "La Luna" is worth the price of admission.
