re: Bond 24

Obviously I'm in the minority here, but how can you not like this?

re: Bond 24

I think she's lovely, and quite talented, but not right for a Bond girl for the reasons I explained previously.

I actually find this problem with a lot of big-name actors. In many cases, particularly in genre films, they seem to be more just going through the motions, rather than actually becoming the part. So instead of a character on the screen who happens to look like Penelope Cruz, you get "and Penelope Cruz as Inuenda Fornicata" or whathaveyou. But this isn't limited to her. It tends to be true of a lot of big-name actors. I have a tough time NOT seeing the actor and instead seeing the part. Particularly with actors who are frequently in the public eye outside of their roles, or who tend to play roles in a very similar fashion, rather than being real chameleons or taking wildly different roles.

Basically, I think her "Penelope Cruz"-ness would be a distraction to the part. Better to go with someone not quite as well known.

:lol Great name for a Bond girl! :thumsup :lol

re: Bond 24

Sorry, can't stand her. I'm the same way with Angelina Jolie and everyone seems to love her.

Exactly.
PC was ok in Sahara until I read the book and she was totally opposite of what the character was supposed to be.
Pointless in PotC4.

Haven't seen anything I liked AJ in.

re: Bond 24

After seing AJ in tomb raider, quite hard to imagine her as Bond girl, unless JB goes Indy style.

I'd prefer Rachel Weisz than PC.

My top 5 Bond Girls
1. Diana Rigg/Tracy
2. Carole Bouqet/ Melina Havelock
3. Daniela Bianchi/Tatiana
4. Jane Seymour/Solitaire
5. Sophie Marceau/Elektra King

Arrgh, should make that top 10....
Close call between Gemma Arterton, Jane Seymour and Barbara Bach.
Sophie Marceau with Rosamund Pike

re: Bond 24

I love DC as Bond and I think he brought back the franchise. But when he wants to call it quits, I'd really like to see Idris Elba. He is amazing in Luther and I think he has what it takes.

While not a PC fan either, Sahara isn't her fault.
Here character wasn't what it was in the book
Neither was Numa
Neither were Dirk/Al for the most part
Neither was the plot
etc, etc

re: Bond 24

I have nothing against Idris Elba, he is quite a good looking bloke and a good actor, but I don't see that happen any time soon, Craig's blond hair already caused some fans to go crazy, changing Bond's ethnicity would cause a riot !

re: Bond 24

Yeah, unless they FINALLY went with "It's a code name, not a guy" I don't see that happening. You'd have better luck casting him as the 12th Doctor.

re: Bond 24

Yeah changing the race of characters unless you start from scratch alienates fans unless like you said it's a reboot, a code name only, or an alternate universe.

re: Bond 24

I'm not afraid of change it makes things interesting. If they can change Bond actors and retain continuity like in years past, I dont see why race would be so hard. Did anyone see the Bond Legends game where they put Craig in all the past movies?

re: Bond 24

While I don't mind a change in ethnicity (HATE the code name thought though. Do what we did with other Bonds, just say it's the same guy and move on.) I too don't see that happening until the franchise needs a boost again. I hate to say it but ethnicity change would be used as a gimmick to get bums in seats and isn't needed. I feel the same about a female Doctor.

re: Bond 24

While I kind of like the notion of the code name thing, I agree that playing for cheap headlines is lame. Could it be done well? Probably, but I don't trust them to do it right.

I totally agree with that

Agreed, Bond hardly needs a gimmick to draw people in, on the other had I prefer female Doctors. ;)
