Martin Campbell directing B7? Fantastic. His TV stuff is really good - was it The Edge of Darkness for the BBC? Really pacey for a low budget BBC show.
They abandoned the BBC reboot. Sorry, I don't have much faith in a US reboot. That being said I would watch it! LOL
I wonder if Blake will actually stay until the end of the series in this one.![]()
How can you keep Blake alive, or well, around? It will screw up the group dynamic that went on with him not around, giving Avon his "leadership" role.
That would be a huge mistake.
I agree that Avon assuming "leadership" was very interesting I just wish Blake had been a bigger factor in the last two series instead of showing up in the final two episodes for a brief cameo.
Of course I would have liked some of the other characters to stay around a little longer as well but cast changes seem to be the norm in British science fiction.
if it is as good as the new Docotor Who consequences it can not go fast enough going on
Wasn't it ego and pay packet disputes that determined most of the cast in the end. That's what I heard anyway. Best show ever!
Well I know that Gareth Thomas wanted out of the role as Blake. When it came down to them asking him to come back to the show he agreed he would be in one more episode, but under the requirement that he be killed onscreen as bloodily as the censors would allow to make it clear he's dead and not coming back. That's why every other instance of someone being shot is essentially bloodless, and Blake ends up a splatterfest.
Farscape too seemed like an unofficial remake of Blakes 7.
No Blake reboots please.
No producer today would have the guts to use an exterior location shot of a UK power station to portray a space installation on another planet. And where there is no UK-power-station-as-space-installation there is no Blake's 7.
LONG LIVE 1970s BBC PRODUCTION VALUES!! Down with CGI! No modern actors to play Avon and Blake!! Avon and Blake will only ever be Darrow and Thomas!! No modern scriptwriters to DARE to step into Nation's shoes!! Rebooters BEGONE!!
And there is no one around today.... NO ONE.... who could match Jacqueline Pearce's Servalan.
"And there is no one around today.... NO ONE.... who could match Jacqueline Pearce's Servalan."
they tried hard w/ Morena in the "V" reboot.
hate to see the reboot of the Liberator, she's a gorgeous design and reboots being reboots they'd decide it was quite good enough of a design and eff it up.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!,sorry but NO,no offence but the USA usually fecks up UK remakes,i'd love to see it rebooted but there is something British about it that needs to stay.....(think Red dwarf,Life on Mars, torchwood,The office, and maybe the inbetweeners).
It was a low budget show and no amount of cgi ,special effects etc can improve the story line
why make everything American ....what next star wars with American accents....lol
Honestly, forget reboots, but if I had the resources I'd love to see the whole of the existing Blake's 7 episodes given a well considered and deserving cg/vfx shot in the arm. Aside from the Liberator (and even that has limited shots that are re-used many times) - the rest of the 'BBC production values' are left criminally wanting. At times they actively hurt an otherwise outstanding example of science fiction TV, imo.
Blake's disappearance really confused me as a child and I really wanted to see him back. Upon watching the whole series again not so long ago with a more critical eye it's interesting how Blake come's across as almost psychotically principled and quite the liability. Originally I saw Blake as the cool and heroic one, and Avon I liked but was suspicious of - yet as an adult I find my view of each character has swapped. Avon coming to the fore was worth the cost of Thomas wanting to bow out early and created one of the best characters in Sci-Fi, imo.
Such a great idea to throw two very interesting and chalk+cheese characters together against a common enemy - and so lucky to have genuine acting talent behind the characters.
Much as I love Blake's Seven, I don't want to see a reboot/remake. As Wolfie138 already mentioned, the Liberator is a classic design that shouldn't be messed with. And the same could probably be said for Paul Darrow.
Some news on it...
