May 19, 2011 - The Best Films Since 2000: Future Movie Classics (A Dynamic List) #1

    Hey guys,

I'm currently re-watching all of the films that I've seen since 2000 (plus checking out some that I've never seen) so that I can re-look at these films with a new and critical eye. Some movies have remained classics in my eyes, others aren't quite as good as I remember them being, and some I've actually liked a lot more this time around. These movies are prime examples of quality filmmaking, whether they are adult dramas, action movies or teenage comedies. The acting, direction, cinematography, writing and pacing are all top notch. Above all, though, they are, in my opinion at least, the most memorable films of the decade. I've put the films in alphabetical order from the best quality to the least (5.0/5.0 movies then 4.5/5.0 then 4.0/5.0 then 3.5/5.0). This list has the potential to grow as I watch more and more films, so watch out for new additions!

    3.5 - Good (5 Total)
    4.0 - Very Good (11 Total)
    4.5 - Great (16 Total)
    5.0 - Classic (30 Total)

Comments and suggestions for movies that you think I should check out are welcome!

P.S.: I've written short critiques of each movie to explain why I chose them.

that is a pretty good list so far. When doing a future "classics" list is tricky because everyone wants to put films that they like but that are not necessarily going to be classics... very hard. Some of those films I haven't seen yet, so are on my 'to see" list. The only one I have a problem with is United 93 ...This should fall under the "fiction" category as far as I am concerned. Passing this off as factual history as the filmmakers contend, is too much for me. And as far as classic filmmaking goes....I think it falls very short on that count.
I would add BLACK HAWK DOWN and PASSON OF THE CHRIST to the list.
You should add a ``should have been better received`` list...... films that are good but either bombed at the box office and or failed to find an audience for whatever reason ....some titles on that list should be THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES, TEAM AMERICA, THE AVIATOR , GANGS OF NEW YORK, CONFESSIONS OF A DANERGEOUS MIND and THIRTEEN DAYS for starters....

Since my initial post my list of the best films since 2000 has grown from 34 films to 83. I thought that this huge leap in new additions warranted an entirely new post to get some new thoughts and suggestions for movies that you think I should check out for this list. I've been re-watching all of the films that I've seen since 2000 (plus checking out some that I've never seen) so that I can look at these films with a new and critical eye. It only makes sense to show you the films I've watched critically that HAVEN'T made it onto my list, and I will list them below. Foreword, though - just because they didn't make it doesn't mean they are BAD movies, in fact some are decent, some are okay and some are watchable, but in order to be on my list they have to be, at the very least, a GOOD movie. There MAY exist the possiblity that I could bump one or two of these up and add them to my list, but I'm 99% sure they won't. Yes, I've seen more movies than what's on both lists, but I'm only including films that I've watched after I started this project, so anything I don't remember clearly will not be included. This list exists so that you know what I've actually seen so that if you want to recommend films to me then you now know what not to recommend. Anyway:

    The 40 Year-Old Virgin
    A History Of Violence
    Battle: LA
    Biutiful
    Black Hawk Down

Isn't this about the same as your last post? Mods, can we merge these threads?

Two posts and you've only posted about 21st Century movies? No introduction. No prop posts. What gives?

I gave A.I. two stars. That still exists as one of the worst film experiences I've endured. The movie that didn't know when to end... though they blew past half a dozen better places to end the movie.

2 Stars? Based on what? How you liked it or did you seriously analyze it? Either you A. have no idea what you're talking about, B. have astronomically high standards or C. did not critique the film objectively but instead let your rating fall solely on how much you "liked" it. Liking a movie implies that you enjoyed it whereas saying it's good implies that you seriously analyzed the movie and found little or no faults in it. Also, it's very important to always keep in mind the TYPE of movie it is that you're watching when critiquing movies or any piece of art. For example, I hate country music but I would be an idiot to claim that none of it is good simply because I don't enjoy listening to it. A.I. was an incredible piece of work considering the type of movie it was which is a sappy sci-fi fairy tale. Watch it again with a critical eye and if you STILL think it's a terrible movie then I'm sorry but you're letting your subjectivity get the better of you.

P.S. what other movies since 2000 would you rate a 2 and what movies since 2000 would you rate a 5? I'm curious.

    P.S.S. what's a prop post?

Hey, hoss: you just got here, have posted only three times, and only about films and not about props. This being a replica prop forum, and all, makes you and your sole subject matter a little suspect, wary as the community is with all the loons that float in and out as they do.

Wuher is probably wondering, as I am, why you would come to a place known for discussing screen used and replica props and be confrontational out of the gate about something, for example, as benign and harmless as the disappointing mess that was A.I.
