    Jul 10, 2012 - Assassins Creed Film #1

Just saw this on Facebook and was wondering if any of you guys have seen this:

Fassbender game for 'Assassin's Creed' - Entertainment News, EXCLUSIVE, Media - Variety

Im a big fan of the franchise, and a bigger fan of Fassbender. But I dont know if I can see him as an Altair/Etzio type of character, although they could do a different assassin and time period which could work.

    Thoughts??

I would think that Fassbender would be one of the better choices to actually make a GOOD game based movie. Short of having a "real" Altair/Etzio I think Fassbender is the best fit for the role within the VERY limited acting talent we have these days. But knowing Hollyweird the role will go to Tom Cruise or Seth Rogen

well he also is the coproducer, so im pretty sure he has some say in who will be the main actor xD
and i second that he is pretty perfect for the role, too.

    Three things:

First, the writing on that site is terrible. Pretend you're a real journalist for cripes sake, and don't shorten things like "pic" and "org." This isn't Twitter, you aren't limited on characters. They also seem averse to having sentences begin with "The," which is totally off-putting and jarring as a reader.

Second, the concept of video game companies using their in-house computer effects teams to develop feature films is a fantastic idea. It seems like using a team that is already familiar with the subject material and overall aesthetic for the characters and locations will lend itself to a very genuine game to movie transition. Great call by UbiSoft.

Third, I don't know why, but I've long thought Eric Balfour (Eric Balfour - IMDb) would make a really good Altair, despite his limited acting skills. I see Fassbender as an Etzio, but not Altair.

Really? I could see him maybe pulling off an older Etzio, but I think it would be nice to have a different assassin or even have a new actor take on the role. But then again he is a great actor, so could pull it off.

I agree that the sites writing is a little off, but this was the link ubisoft posted and I didnt want to dwindle finding a better write up and possible getting jedifyed for waiting to long :P

I don't blame you for the writing in the link, obviously. It just bugs me to see bad writing in general.

I think Fassbender is great, he'd be fine as any character we've met, but I see him more as the suave Italian rather than the hardened Palestinian.

The Nazi hunting scenes in X-men First Class told me that I will want to see anything Fassbender is in.

Meh. I wasn't a fan of the whole "Ancestor-in-the-future" part of the story. Why couldn't they just make a story about a linage of assassins? I felt it was along the same lines as a "dream" or "simulation" where it really doesn't matter in the end. I doubt the transition to film will make it any better.

I love Fassbender but definitely can't see him in this role. Now Fassbender as James Bond, yes!

Yea, Fassbender isn't the right choice for the role. But I guess he's paying for the movie, so he can do whatever he wants. I swear though, if nobody complains about Arian Altair/Ezio I'll be pretty disappointed in the human race. The same human race that bemoaned the perfectly cast Jake Gyllenhal in the PoP movie. And yea, despite not being Persian or even Persian-ish, he was perfectly cast for that character.

I don't even think they'd have to cast middle eastern or Italian for the character so long as the actor can pull it off, but Fassbender looks nothing like either of them.

That's where much of my opinion on Fassbender comes from. And it's why I think Eric Balfour would work. If you've ever seen Secondhand Lions, he's the Sheik's Grandson, and actually has the ability to pull off a person of middle-eastern descent.

100% agreed. He 100% looks the part.

But can he act/Carry a movie on his own? And will people see it.......

My bet is studios will not agree. Same thing w/John Rhys Meyers (Guy from "To Paris...." & "The Tudors"). He looks the part VERY MUCH. I could see him playing a perfectly LOOKING Altair or Ezio. But, would people see it?

Look, he already has the hooded look down.

But the difference is Michael Fassbender equals money. Maybe not boatloads of money, but much more money and name recognition than either of the two we are talking about. In a perfect world, the actor that looks just like the already conceived role would be perfect. They could act, people would care about them, or just wouldn't care about star power.

But they do. Fassbender has much more power attached to his name than either Balfour or Rhys Meyer. I agree, they perfectly look the part, and are fine actors. But unless you can have some other big time actor take a role opposite Balfour or Rhys Meyers (Anthony Hopkins, Ian Mckellen or someone of similar stature), I don't think studios will cast someone like that, because they won't make money.

I'd like to see this feature a new assassin, maybe pick up after the end of AC3 as they left that wide open. I have to say the live action short they made "Ascension" was really good for the most part so if done right I could see it work.
