Anyone who is a fan of old movies who doesn't know Joseph Cotten should be ashamed of themselves especially if they are a big fan of TCM as they always have one of his movies on.

All on my mothers side: FDR, Grover Cleveland, Rutherford B. Hayes, Daniel + Noah Webster, Lady Di, Prince William + Harry, The Wright Brothers, Spencer Tracy, Lauren Becall, Mike Huckabee, to name a few. They are all distant cousins who share a common Grandfather with me or someone married into the family.

It's amazing what the internet can show. I only discovered these in the last couple years.

The Younger brothers (rode with Jesse James, the outlaw, not the cycle builder) on my dad's side. On my moms side, Captain Kidd. Ironic he was hanged for piracy in 1701.

Since my dad has researched our family history many times. As far as entertainment industry goes my Great Grandfather Was a Electrician on Universal Studios. While in Chicago in about 1895 or 1900, my Great Grandfather Leonard did some electrical work for Carl Laemmle(1 of the founders of Universal). A few years(maybe 10) later when my Leonard move out west. To proud to ask for a job from his old friend. He instead camped outside of Universal for 30 days before Carl noticed my father. After a long talk of the two old friends catching up he immediately hired Leonard to work for Universal as one of it's main electricians. During this time my Grandfather Irvin(who I have my middle from) started learning about lighting and cameras while hanging out at the lot. About 10 years later he was hired as what today would be known as Director of Lighting for a lot of the classic monster movies made in the 20's and 30's.
My dad also worked for both universal as a tour guide in the early/mid 70's. He also worked at daily variety as head of their legal deparetment in the early/mid 80's. My older brother also did some child acting in the late 80's being involed in Transylvania Twist as the young Victor Van Helsing, and as a extra in the TV movie "Winnie"

here is a link to his IDMB Page
    Kyle Malak - IMDb

As far as Historical famous folks The Malak family comes from a branch of the Buchanan Clan so we have relations to both James Buchanan the 15th President(not sure how close I would have to ask my dad) and to the Buchanan who killed and beheaded The Duke of York while Scotland was fighting for their independence in the early 1300's.

Who would have been my uncle was the only off property race related death at the Indianapolis race track. In 1931 a wheel from Billy Arnolds car flew off during a race crash and went directly at the tree branch Wilbur was sitting on that over looked the race track. It hit him so hard it tossed him up over the house (tree was in the backyard of the home my grandmother grew up in) and into the front yard where he ended up in the street. Killed instantly. My grandma was also in the tree but had come down just seconds before to get something to drink.
Being a very poor family with lots of kids, the family took a pay off to cover up some liability issues. This afforded them to move out to California in search of work where 12 years later grandma met grandpa....

To tie in even further, my uncle (his older brother) worked the corner at Ascot Raceway in Gardena CA. Whenever you see stock footage of that racetrack on Chips or any other era tv show/movie, thats my uncle waving the flags.

Chloe Moretz is my second cousin. (her mom is my dad's cousin) What's funny is that we first saw her on My Name is Earl and always talked about how much she looked exactly like my niece. A few years later we come to find out who she actually was.

Also my uncle Alan Duke is head of entertainment for CNN (might not be the right title...) and is on tv just about every day.
