Which would you rather own?

I think it's a pretty even trade here. I'm wondering what you guys think. I've been offered the Jamie Lee Curtis Halloween H20 stunt retractable Knife for the Wishmaster Geode and Opal. Any opinions? Everything checks out. The H20 knife comes with a studio and screenused COA. Trusted fellow collector.

While it seems you have already made your decision before your post ;) , you need to make sure you think about it to be sure of that decision.

You screen matched the Geode, received it from the director, and per your description, it's one of a kind.

The H2O stunt knife is from Premier Props :rolleyes (look up threads about them online and on TheRPF), has a barcode, which is a bit concerning because barcodes are usually used by prop rental houses to document everyday stock items rented to multiple productions, like 5 "red phones", 4 "retractile effects butcher knives", "10 chairs", "3 beds", etc. I am not saying that means the prop is not from the film, just that the barcode sticker would make me want to know more about it. I'm sure some productions have moved to barcoding props for easy tracking, etc, but seeing the barcode sticker on the knife raises questions. Is there documentation supporting the butcher knife was used as the stunt butcher knife in the film? Not that it wouldn't be considered a stunt, but I would imagine a stunt knife would be rubber or lightweight plastic. This looks to be more of an effects knife for shots where it was "stabbed" into someone. Hence the retractable blade. Maybe the production considered and used it as a stunt and an effects knife. Where you able to get any info about that?

Finally. Were you were able to screen match the handle grain or any bumps or marks on the the knife?. I imagine it would be very hard to do. Especially the handle, since it would be covered when it was held.

Before making a decision, ask as many questions you can and be satisfied with the answers and documentation provided. After doing that and you are satisfied, think about which film you are more passionate about and why. Between the two props which would you "have" to own?

Tough decision. Good luck ;)

After reading moviepropcollectors great post. I say keep the wishmaster. It's cooler to own an one of kind that you know is legit. Plus getting it from the director makes it a great story piece as well.

Keep the geode and opal. The knife is just a knife. The other is one of a kind and you will not get another. I would only trade it for another hero item that was screen matched and there were no possibility of others being out there on the market.

Plus Premiere Props does not have a stellar record with keeping track of their items or stories.

I was leaning toward making the trade like Moviepropcollector was suggesting. Premiere Props and Miramax did join forces for the Hollywood Auction Extravaganza II. Where the knife was originally sold. Link here. http://www.icollector.com/Halloween-H20-20-Years-Later-1998-Jamie-Lee-Curtis-Knife_i10845242 However, the two COA's don't really specify the use of the knife in the film.View attachment 366523The description in the auction, however DOES specify it's use. There's some studio blood residue on the blade still. I want to believe, because I'm such a big Halloween fan, but I'm not sure.

Great post by MoviePropCollector btw. Thank you for that!

Thanks KF, appreciate it.

Don't rely on PPs' description in the auction, please don't :$. Their descriptions at times in the past have been wrong.

Even the two C.O.A's you mention do not specify the use of the knife in the film. Again, I am not saying the prop is not from the film, but from what you have shared I don't see any proof that supports what the catalog descriptions states.

I would keep the Geode myself. Screen matched, excellent provenance supporting use in the film, and source. However, try to get more info on the knife if you can. I would hate to see you pass it up only to discover later it was the real deal.

P.M. me if you like anytime.

I'm kind of new to the game of prop collecting. Although I do have some cool ****. I'm realizing that Premiere Props is NOT a trusted source. They've screwed me over before. I bought a Blade screen used vampire teeth retainer. Come to find out, Wesley Snipes didn't use retainers. The BS goes on and on. Thanks for the insight bud. So glad I brought my situation with the Geode/Myers Knife to your attention. Your comments are very much appreciated.

I'd keep the Opal & geode if I were you (unless you really want to sell it to me, then I'd be ok with you parting with it ;-) ) But seriously, the fire opal is a far more prominent and memorable prop that has far more movie plot story behind it. As others have said unless you are a bigger Halloween fan, but I'd stick with the Djinn!!!!!

I don't remember H2O (only saw it once), and don't think I've ever seen Wishmaster...

That said, just based on the actual props themselves- Keep the geode... That is just too damn cool. I'd collect that just based on its coolness and history... As others have said, a knife is just a knife. Which one would look cooler to someone that knows nothing about props that happened see it on display?

As far as props in general go, screenmatched, uniquely one of a kind, from the director... That trumps the knife any day. :)

It was an easy decision after viewing all these replies to my post. I'm definitely keeping the Geode and Fire Opal. I'm a much bigger fan of the Halloween series than Wishmaster. That's why I was initially leaning towards making the trade. It comes down to the fact that there's no mention of the knifes use in the film on the COAs. The auction description however does specify that it was used by Jamie Lee. I've learned that Premiere Props is notorious for making claims in auction descriptions, and being vague on the COA to cover their asses. I was ready to make the trade. I would have regretted that big time! I didn't mention that director Robert Kurtzman included 4 pages of original story board art from the scenes where the Geode and Opal were used in the film. Kurtzman, (or a representative) on Ebay asked me what I wanted him to write on the COA from Creature Corps. I made damn sure the description had the words "hero" and "screen used". He was selling to raise money for students involved with his special effects production company. Thank you so much for all of your replies. Very helpful!

BTW, Greg Nicotero was 2nd Unit Director on that film, and shot all of that footage in the beginning where the "alchemist" is designing the geode to trap the Djinn. I was a big fan of Wishmaster and he told me that story personally.
