Jun 8, 2012 - What do you call a found prop that's not exact brand? #1

I'm on the trail of identifying a prop in a film set, but don't have the exact brand/model of the item down yet.

So, what's the accepted practice for calling such a thing? Do you still say 'found prop' even though don't know brand/model yet?

Whether I am successful or end up hitting a wall and needing help finalizing the identification, I will share it here on RPF.

    Thanks

I'd still call it a found item/prop but with the mention "pending confirmation" or "pending identification of the original".

I'd say unless/until you have the exact item in hand, any facsimile would be just a "close but no cigar" type of thing. You can certainly call it a found item since you did indeed "find" it, but in terms of screen-accuracy, it wouldn't really be unless it was exact.
