Original Ewok Mask from Return of the Jedi - restoration
We've updated the site with another interesting restoration project. It's always wonderful to work on something from your favorite films... in this case, it was an original screen used Ewok mask from Return of the Jedi.
Our client was friend and famed collector, Gus Lopez, who you may know from his books about Star Wars collectibles and his site: The Star Wars Collectors Archive While there are some dramatic differences in the before and after photos, we were careful not to "overdo" the restoration on this rare mask. Mike Thomas replaced a small amount of material that had crumbled away (the center of the nose and part of the upper lip) and then the rest of the work was focused on stabilizing and repairing the mask. A chunk of fur that dangled from the neck was put back in place as were the eyes and teeth. A tear in the head was patched from the inside and the ears, which were among the most dry and deteriorated foam I've ever seen, were carefully opened, repaired and then closed back up. All of the work was made to look as "invisible" as possible. For example, when Mike rebuilt the nose, the patched area was textured and color matched in such a way that it matches the aged look of the existing, untouched material. To see more original Star Wars prop restorations, visit our site: Star Wars Movie Prop Restoration our preservation, conservation and foam latex repair Oh and our Facebook friends have already seen a sneak peek at this project, so please visit our Facebook page today and click "like" if you'd like to see this stuff before anyone else does too! Re: Original Ewok Mask from Return of the Jedi - restoration
Wow. Amazing work!
Whenever I see Ewoks, I think of my dogs Starla and Remy, who passed away in 2008. Several years before, they went to an Animal Planet halloween party dressed as Ewoks - it was for charity (and NO we do not normally dress our dogs up) They were so cute they won first prize - a $5,000 gift to a no-kill animal shelter in my small home town. Your pics brought back those good memories... and now, for all to see, my Ewoks. (In addition, there are photos of my husband and I escorting them to the party - we were dressed as Han and Leia. I am not sure if I am ready to disclose those to everyone... the dogs were much cuter than us! Cheers, Shell Last edited by PropworxOliver; 08-12-2011 at 01:59 AM. |

Great job, brings back so many memories, I used to carry a medium size wicket in my backback to school from 4th grade to 6th grade. I admire not only the work you have done on this, but that you restore these props so the fan's can continue to enjoy them for years to come! The fan's will be here forever, so the prop's need to make it to!

Re: Original Ewok Mask from Return of the Jedi - restoration
It's always a joy to know that these pieces of movie history are finding their way into very caring and loving collections where the owners are doing their utmost to save them from total disintegration.
I applaud you for the time, dedication, and resources you have taken and sought out in making sure this "little fellow (or gal)" will be preserved for years to come and that you're willing to share it with those who are fans, movie buffs in general, or those just plain interested in anything historical. All the best to you in your continued restoration. I hope you'll continue to save pieces of cinematic history.

Unless you've made the eyes blink, it's NOT screen accurate...

Re: Original Ewok Mask from Return of the Jedi - restoration
Thanks all! We really appreciate the kind words! I've got such a great group of people working together now and it's nice to see the work appreciated by people who really "get it" (and the RPF has always been a home to "it getters!" LOL)
LOL @ HJO comps... never even thought of that! LDR - the base for Selene is made from carved foam, which we then textured, hardcoated and painted. Propworxoliver - too cute on the ewok puppies! Thanks again!! Tom |

Your work is amazing.
I really wish that they had called you guys to restore the Hoggle that is in the lost luggage store in Alabama, maybe it wouldn't make me cry every time I see pictures of it. |
