I've got a screen used Monica Lewinsky dress you can have. It's in pretty rough shape though.

I might offer a chance for them to show off my bottle of Tatooine air!

I have some (potentially recast) screen-used Tatooine sand, as well.

With Pawn Stars, Hardcore Pawn , Cajun Pawn and Combat Pawn already on TV you'll have plenty of TV time competition. I do wish you luck on your new show.
I don't and I'm probably not the only one who sick to the back teeth of so-called " reality " shows on tv.

What drives me nuts is when on these shows they bring an expert in who says the item is worth $5,000 at auction and then the pawn dealer offers him $500.

Who in their right mind would sell? Find an auction house and have them sell it! You JUST had it appraised!

(Again, scripted I know but still...)
Drives me crazy too. There was an episode of Pawn Stars where a guy brought in a suit of Halo Armor. The store owners offered him $200 because it "took up too much room, would only fit his body, and nobody would want to buy it." I enjoy watching the shows to see what type of items come in, but I HATE how they do business. I actually had the chance to visit the Pawn Stars store a couple years ago. Definitely not the same as it is on tv.

It doesn't matter how much some so-called appraiser says something is worth. Appraisals are just opinions of what something is worth and doesn't reflect current market value. Bottom line..... its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it regardless of what its "appraised" for. Auction houses can't guarantee what something will sell for either.

Of course. I was referring to the HUGE disparity between the appraisal by an expert and what they end up "selling" it for.

    Appraisals are professional guesses.

Actually, good appraisers DO take current market trends into consideration. They understand the market and the audience as well as the details like condition.

But these "reality" shows aren't using appraisers. They may know THEIR market, but the market of a Pawn Shop or general antique dealer is very different from an auction house. In my dealings with a consignor dealing with Profiles, their estimates were generally right on the money - smack in the middle of the estimated range. (Some went higher, some didn't sell.)

Yeah what a shame. Just recently I was thinking about selling my original screen-used Darth Vader lightsaber from ANH. It's just collecting dust.
