May 11, 2011 - Count Dooku Lightsaber. Need help identifying.. #1

I recieved this lightsaber hilt from a coworker. She got in a box of movie props. I was to know if anyone has any idea if its a recast or an actual prop. Any help would be appreciated.

Has it got a screw thread hole in the end of the emitter? What's the part that protrudes from the emitter end made of? Where does / did your co-worker work?

Nope, no screw hole at the end of the emitter. My Co worker is into movies and she buys a lot of props. She bought it from a guy who used to work in the prop industry.

Hmm, that means that in theory it's a hero saber but to me it doesn't look like hero build quality. What's the part that protrudes from the emitter end made of?

Well, i can't be definitive but it seems to differ from the couple of 100% original examples that I've seen. I guess you need to dig more on the original source and how they obtained it. Unfortunately there were a lot of 'production made' raw casts of sabres from E2 and 3 floating around, so it's hard to be sure.

it looks like a cast of the master relicas metal saber but I am no expert but I do own the metal version of this saber, from you measure the base I can measure mine.

    The prong doesn't match MR's.

The prong also doesn't match the screen used one.

Another thing the button near the emitter doesn't match MR's or the screen used.

From looking at it, and the quality, I think it's just a prop someone designed. If it doesn't match the screen-used version or the MR version, there's not a whole lot else it could be.

i thought that all the hero and stunt sabers from ep3 were made of rubber and chromed using some flexable chroming process or something? i think i saw something aboput that on the special fetures or behind the scenes or something from ep3 but it was a few years ago since ive even seen the movie so i dont know.

That was only the unlit stunt sabers and I couldn't tell you if all the unlit stunt sabers were rubber.

This is actually a raw cast from an AOTC Dooku stunt prop.

Hope that helps! As you can see, there's a separate metal prong on this one, and there's a threaded bolt (metal, not resin) sticking out of it. That makes me think that this was production-made, but the casting wasn't good enough for screen-use.

Here are mine...top one is a pull from a production mold (not production made), the bottom one is production made (I have the production mold it came from as well).

I have some pictures somewhere on my other computer of a dooku cast that a "friend" had casted for me. The paint job on the saber looks exactly like the one I did. I am going to hunt them down if I can find them. I am about 90% sure it was the one I painted. When I showed my wife this picture, she was quick to point out the spots on the grips where I had made a few mistakes. I hope I can find the picture cause if so then I can give you some more info where it came from.

Ok found the picture, don't think yours is the one I painted, but near the lower grips some flaws look almost the same. I have painted quite a few of these, and used to have a contact that made them for me. I have some pictures of the saber before painting also, just need to find them. This thing was a hard one to, as there were alot of airbubbles in it. I ended up later on taking the covertc clip off, and drilling a small hole, and putting a real one on. Wish I wouldn't have sold it as it has been hard to locate more. I have had luck on finding a few prequel saber casts, but not a dooku or maul. I painted a maul that took me two months to paint as I wanted it as screen accurate to the resin version seen in the film. I would have kept it but someone offered a trade I could not pass on.
