BTTF 2 Prop - Old Biff's Milk container

Anyone interested in info on the Futuristic Milk container Old Biff was drinking out of in BTTF 2 ?





When "old" Biff was in the Cafe '80's , on the table in front of him is a futuristic round glass milk container w/ straw. The glass container was hand blown by R&D Lab Glass in Berkeley ( Same company that did the Eyes of the bots in "Batteries not Included") With some RTA Vinyl decals applied.

I have a couple of the glass containers, one with a removable top, and some test graphics, I'll dig them out and get some pics if anyone is interested.

Originally, they didn't tell us at first what it was for. We thought it was for a print ad or commercial, there were a lot of "Got milk" ads back in the 1980's, so we just assumed it was something like that.

We made a few so that in case we broke one (or several !) putting on the RTA decals, we would still have one to give them. Turns out we did't break any, so we sent the finished one, and kept the rest. And since my Dad NEVER throws anything out, he still has them.

So technically, the ones we have are not screen used, but could have been ! It would be interesting to see if the other one has survived, and isin a collection somewhere, they were pretty fragile.

Wow. I thought I had the only one left in the world of these. I have one in storage somewhere. It's one of my treasured props from the movie as I'd never seen one before. I was amazed that it was blown glass when I first got it.

Do you know who put together the Slurpee cup? I just traded that away recently. Sadly the ********* I bought it from just put it in an envelope to ship it - so the glass all smashed on the way to me.

Sorry, no clue about the other prpos -

I am working on locating the ones we have so I can take pictures, my dads shop is pretty crowded - it reminds me of the warehouse at the end of Indiana jones, where they stored the Ark of the covenent.

This is really interesting to find out who made these glasses though. I was always blown away that they the production team went to so much trouble with such a small prop. As soon as I can find mine in storage I'll post some photos.

Side note, the "Got Milk" ad campaign was started in 1993.
But yeah, before that took hold the dairy industry was trying very hard (and failing for years) to hook people back into drinking milk.

My memory is not what it used to be apparantly - (not enough milk maybe?)

I did speak to my dad today, he thought we sent more than one to the studio, so there may be more out there somewhere. He's going to pull out what he has and take some pictures.

Let me know what you find. I just checked the movie and I can see at least 3 of the glasses in Cafe 80s.

Mine came from the storage at Universal Studios Florida. I'm assuming they had it down there as possible dressing for The Ride.

Finally got it -

This is obviously a prototype as it differs from the final. It was a test, and of course it was immediately realized that the white lettering would not show up once the container was full ! I think we used vinyl shelf paper, and white was what we had on hand at the moment.

I also found - 6 extra glass globes, no graphics, but with the straw hole & flat base, and the glass "straws" that were supposed to go with them. I think they used a regular straw in the film. I also have another with the top cut off, and a glass "lid", another failed test.
I'll post pics of the rest later this week.
(Sorry for the poor image quality, my good camera is at home)

No doubt he was thinking of the 'Milk Does a Body Good' campaign which was at least as early as 1983. I use to get them confused.
