I feel like that statement is not entirely true. While it's always cool to own a piece from the original manufacturer, I don't necessarily think that always means that it will be the most accurate replica to the screen used version. Such is the case with an accurate replica of the Indiana Jones fedora. Sure, you can still order a hat from the original manufacturer that is CLOSE to the original, but it is not 100% accurate to the one seen on screen in Raiders. To get a really good replica you must go elsewhere.

Not saying you wont be happy with a Bates. It certainly looks to be a fine jacket, but after all this talk Im surprised you'd still choose them over Dan's Vanson. But to each their own. I would be excited to see another member in a Bates X2 .

Jacket looks really great Patterson! Did you say you even think the vanson comes out ahead of it? Thats pretty interesting. Those pics also really help clear up the inner sleeve seam debate on here. Thanks so much for posting!

My experience with bates was a rollercoaster. It took over a year. The price of that jacket was $1,550. They measured me personally. And when I received it, the size was way off. The fit you see was achieved by my running a $1,550 jacket through a double wash cycle at 180d f, then drying it on high to about half-dry and wearing/stretching it the rest of the way. Bates is a small family shop. They can fit "normal" people fine. But I'm a weightlifter. They measured me and I gave them guidance on how other tailors fit me. They pretty much ignored me. That was frustrating - but it's why I thought I was paying so much for a real custom fit. After the words we exchanged, they will no longer accept my business, but I would never give it to them again. I also have a Terminator jacket they made at the same time. It was part of the drama. The waist was 4+ inches too big - even with everything cinched-up. I joked that they are used to fitting fat guys...

I'm sure a more "normal" physiqued person would have better luck. The quality is great. They do great detailed and durable work. But for that price I expect them to listen better.

So, yeah... I'd still recommend Vanson over Bates. When Vsnson had a similar problem nailing my size, they took back a finished custom jacket and fixed the pattern. They insisted on it. In the same situation, Bates BLAMED ME for it.

And the Vanson is a better jacket. I've owned dozens of jackets. The Vanson is better made and the quality and consistency of materials is far superior.

Lol, you think being a weightlifter makes it difficult to get a leather jacket that fits? Try being a SHORT weightlifter like me lol. I'm only 5-2, but I'm built like Stallone (ok, an even shorter Stallone than he already is lol). The past 8 years has been a nightmare. My chest measures 42 inches. Making me about a size large. However, being so short, sleeve length and overall length I'm definitely an extra small. Almost every jacket i try on I run into the same problem. Either the jacket fits well, but is too long. Or the length is fine, but it's too tight.

Either way, last year I FINALLY found a jacket that, while not real leather, fits me perfectly, and gets me plenty of compliments. Then a few weeks ago I scored a plain white cotton hoodie/pullover (without the hood) that has the biker style collar. Fits me perfectly. No more complaints on this end!!

Yeah - same issue: the taper. You compound it giving them even less distance to do it. I'm with ya brother!

Vanson/Dan were cool. They took what I said for the hem measurement measured laid flat. My waist measures 34". I like 8" of give. If you make it 21" laid flat, I am happy. That's what Dan/Vanson did. Bates? Argued with me and did it their way.

I've said it before, but I've NEVER been happier with the fit of a jacket. Dan listens to me and he's a smart guy. Broken record? Sorry. But a happy customer is the best advertisement. And I've bought a lot of jackets.

On Petterson's Origins jacket color... We went with something different from the standard as he originally wanted the standard colors on his X1, so I suggested the MI9/bucktan combo. This color was brought to my attention by the pre-production artwork.

The first jacket I did in this combo was a big hit at D-Con last year, and distresses well to suit the scenes around the Helicopter crash...

This is how his looks in standard light from the same batch of leathers, but as the light changes the color changes a lot, and of course as it wears the colors get lots of character, darkening and lightening all over the place.
This particular jacket is another custom request with no stitch details and armor is actually in this jacket as well... hid pretty well huh?

Being 5 ft 2 and buff makes you the near perfect wolverine. While Hugh jackman did a great job as Wolvie, he's too tall in terms of being true to the comics.

Ya - I've had the privilege of meeting him. Many celebs exaggerate height? I'm 6' 2 3/8" in bare feet - exactly. In casual shoes I'd guess we were the same height and I've heard he's 6'3". While 5"2' might be a little short for Wolvie (I've never seen it said how tall he is), casting a 6'3" Aussie? Interesting but excellent choice.

I remember thinking in the first xmen movie that I was impressed with jackman and the way they did his claws. Did some googling on Wolvie, and on the marvel.com page, he's listed under physical attributes as 5'3" and weighing 195 lbs without metal. Guess juggernaut always calling him "little man" really meant little. Although I will say 5'3" at 195lbs is a ton of muscle on a person.

Not to get all nerd on y'all but I believe the adamantium contributes to his weight.

Hugh is Wolverine, I'm going to have a hard time seeing anyone else pull it, hopefully when Hugh starts to go grey they turn to the 'Old Man Logan' story.

Nerdyness is very welcome in a forum full of comic enthusiasts. The marvel site mentioned that with adamantium, he is about 300 lbs. Now THAT would be a painful amount of claws and metal whenever colossus does his classic Wolvie throw move.

Old man Logan would be an amazing movie. I wish they would make rated r or nc-17 Wolvie films. The guy has adamantium claws for crying out loud. Some of the xforce comics have done Wolvie justice in terms of showing what a real Wolvie claw fight should like in terms of graphic "violence". Granted, it wouldn't make as much money target audience-wise. Kids toys bring in some major revenue.

Dan, where'd you get that belt buckle. The armor in that jacket is hidden well. And that's the Pat's color scheme distressed?! That's a drastic look.

Oh the Hugh note. The guy has to dye is beard now if he ever plays wolvie again after this. Saw an interview a year ago and he's got a lot of it. But being that he's like 43 now, I can't really be at all shocked at that.

And how is the original maker jacket not screen accurate to the jacket they made for the movie? That makes no sense at all. I guess my OLF X3 isn't accurate at all to Hugh's. BRB lemme go check...

I think Bates did a decent job retaining screen accuracy in my copy - subject to how my dimensions affect it. I met with Dana and she showed me their production notes and the kept samples of every material used. They color-matched the leathers and were strict about what they'd use. The one thing they screwed-up? The pocket zips are backwards. They are supposed to close by zipping down. Oops!

Something nobody - but Dan/Vanson - has been able to do? Adjust the pattern to fit my arms without putting the stripes down at my elbows. Vanson gave me room for my arms without dropping the armpit, and they therefore kept the stripes across the biceps where they belong. That's the kind of attention to detail you get. I paid $750-$800 for my XO? I lose track of them. But essentially at half the cost.

So, as far as keeping good records about what they did, Bates gets an A. They fell down in their execution for me - and the price is a reflection of their size and efficiency - NOT because they use better materials. Don't fall for that line.

I will definitely say the best value is Dan/Vanson. When you look at the $ you have to put down on an OLF or Bates, Vanson is CHEAP next to them.
And I have inspected an OLF and it was fashion leather...Wolverine would never wear fashion leather! Bates is CRAZY overpriced. Not to mention the fact that Dan is one of us (a comic nerd...sorry Dan, you know its the truth. : ) and has an eye like ours. Heck, it's even better than mine! And, for me at least, the choice is oh so simple for a Wolverine jacket. Dan/Vanson is the only choice for me.
