Re: whoa! Weta "legs"

These have been around in the haunted house business for a few years. Made by a different company though...people were using them for alien and werewolf legs.

I think they were cheaper too, I'll do some digging, for those interested.

Wow, those are cool!

For a less expensive version try:

http://www.amazon.com/PowerStrider-S...864006&sr=8-15

and

http://www.amazon.com/Pentagon-Profe...864114&sr=8-35

The latter is used by painters and contractors putting up drywall...

BTW, the Wetas are in NZD, which means $938 and change USD.

Re: whoa! Weta "legs"

you know if it's Weta it's a jacked up price. No one in their right mind would buy them. did they do market research and see that thousands wanted them for their costumes. District 9 is slowly and steadily moving down the " seen it and done it " films . So you might have once person make a costume for a con..whoopie..

Re: whoa! Weta "legs"

Those legs would help make a great D9 Prawn costume for sure, and I am sure the resourceful minds here, can think up hundreds of other uses as well. The only draw back is price, and as pointed out there are some cheaper alternatives that can fit the bill.

Those two are nice, but they're just straight stilts more or less. The Weta Legs create that "dog leg" effect that's so tough to pull off effectively (especially on a budget).

For under 1k US? Maybe I'm crazy but IMO, that's a bargain!

Why so negative? What market research are you basing your opinion on?

These would be great for Minotaurs, theater, aliens etc. As for D9, there prices are very good so far. Still in a class by itself.

I am with you. When I saw these I thought, "oh man, PRAWS!" I too don't think the price is way off, just showing some options for those wallet-challenged.

Also, the title character from Pan's Labyrinth.

Seen Here

The legs wouldn't be perfect (I think Pan's proportions are too inhuman), but they would be much closer than anything else I've seen.

those are freak'n sweet...you won't find any other stilts like them right now. Watch the video and you'll see why, people going up stairs, hoping on one foot, running...yeah, these are in a class by themselves.

The wealth of talent we have in these forums, you'd think someone could just build a pair.

You really need to consider that doing a "one of" can, and usually will cost more then buying from a vendor who has an assembly line of products. I own a business and have experience in this. The Prototype "one of" will always cost more the production units. I am fairly certain they tested the hell out of these before selling and went through at least three designs before mass production.

I would love a set of these. I have always wanted to do a Centaur/Minotaur.

The great thing is, they've already done the "legwork" for you (sorry!). This wouldn't be a case of ground-up engineering, but just working from their design. Mind you, I'm not recommending that for a sellable product, but just for your personal costuming needs. It COULD be cheaper and, in the long run, more fulfilling.

Imagine the pride of ownership when you tell 'em you made the costume... ALL of it.

Re: whoa! Weta "legs"

Hi Everyone

Thanks for your interest in our Weta Legs. I can assure you these are very different to any other legs / stilts commercially available, in particular because they are reverse legs (shaped like a Centaur or Horse). Please take a minute to think about the engineering challenge this poses.

They are also developed for a completely different audience to other legs on the market. These are targeted at performers and costumers, to enable them to take on the appearance of "reverse leg" characters / creatures.

Please post any questions you may have here, and we would be delighted to answer them

Kind regards

Tim

Re: whoa! Weta "legs"

I have got to tell you, this "broke-leg" design has always been one that creeps me out (think werewolf legs) but the more I am looking at these, the more I am wishing I could think of a character I could find an excuse to use them for! And I have to agree with Tim and Tom, while I haven't seen these in person, just looking at the build, these are in a totally different class than the painters legs, which are just stilts or even the Powerstrider which is based on more of a spring design for sports/athletic pursuits.

Keep the ideas on different characters coming as I seriously want an excuse to buy a set!
