I use to SCUBA dive and I can tell you from experience, you do not want to wear that as part of a costume. You will overheat in a very short time.

I might look cool, but I agree. That's going to get really hot, really fast.

Also as a certified SCUBA Diver, yeah, you'll get hot. At least you will if that's a 7mm. You might get away with a 1mm or skin suit, but that's the same as a spandex suit. 3mm I don't know about. I've gone diving without the water seeping in between first, and have begun to sweat mid-dive, even with the cold water. I would definitely advise against using a wetsuit. You'll get way too hot way too fast, and there is no real good way to cool someone off when they're wearing one.

Speaking from experience, having worn my wetsuit around the house, mostly to get used to it, I do get warm within say, an hour, and need to take it off shortly there after. When I did, this, the house was about 75 F - 80 F, and I was making minimal movements if I could help it. My wetsuit is a 7mm, about the only thing you really wear in Michigan, unless it's a dry suit.

Thanks for the advice guys. Any idea what might be a good thicker but breathable replacement for spandex?

I would say it depends. Practical or Aesthetic? Aesthetic, I would do a duel layer of spandex/lycra/whatever you want to call it, and put light, not crushable foam in between, where you need it to go. It'd be waay more work, but at least you'd be able to breathe. I didn't say you couldn't use a wetsuit, because you could. It just wouldn't be thick. Like two or three millimeters at most. Even then, my bet is you'd still get hot too quickly for conventions. If you want it for relatively cold weather say 50 F - 60 F, you might be okay. I don't know for sure, I've never had to wear a wetsuit in cold weather.

I have a 3mm thick neoprene suit that I got for my masked rider costume. It is freaking hot. But it looks really cool, just like the TV suit. But if you stay indoor with AC, you should be fine. By the way the photo I use is the neoprene suit on Masked Rider Agito. Looks pretty good.

Yea thats why I was thinking wetsuit, it sort of holds things in place better and doesn't highlight every roll i may have. Not exactly wanting to show off that part of myself.

I might just have to try on the wetsuit and see how I feel. The one at the store is 3mm thick.

I never said, don't do it, 'cause it would be pretty cool to see. Just don't get a 7mm and stay in the AC, was what I meant.

Use a 1.5 or 2 mill dive skin instead. The dive skin is breathable and supporting / slimming
