This guy has been selling the officially licensed Iron Man helmets on ebay with mild modifications for sold prices of over $100 at times. Look at the info in the ads... it's ridiculous. They are the exact same as the second link. A $30 mask. Is this even allowed?

it's marketing ..taking something and adding information to sell it. Nothing wrong with it..just thinking outside the box.

He actually modifies the helmets.. adds in different lenses.. but he also has repainted them to sell them as "war machine" etc... it just bugs me. They aren't screen accurate even the least and he is taking a licensed item.. calling it exactly what it is and reselling them. That isn't cool in my books.

Am I the only one who doesn't see a problem with this?

I've sold Playmates phasers on ebay before after giving them a repaint. So a 30 some odd dollar toy ended up going for (if I remember) $50.

The 1.5 mil figure is outrageous and laughable. But I don't see this guy as passing it off as an actual prop from the film right? I don't see any dishonesty here.

If someone spends "too much" on an ebay item that's the buyer's problem, not the seller's.

he's not really doing anything wrong. He doesn't say he made it, or custom sculpted it. He does change them somewhat. The 1.5 million listed I took as a joke. I doubt any one is taking that seriously. I think there are many others out there recasting etc that we could be upset about, not a guy making a buck. IMHO

Seriously I don't see anything wrong with it as well, Hell its the American dream really. Its up to the buyer on what he buys and its all about marketing. He is not misleading anyone, he is just good at marketing his product.

But seriously, if I were to take a licensed item - let's say a Doctor Who Cyberman Voice Changer Helmet, add a back to it and give it a nice repaint in a better metallic color - and sell it on Ebay, what's the problem with that?

Repaints happen all the time, as do modifications. They add value in some cases.

I see nothing wrong with the auction. I list some modded toy guns on ebay every once and awhile . But I do point that out in the description. " This is a modded toy gun" brand name is , yadda yadda yadda. Dude just do the same thing and be his competition.

You guys all have good points. I am starting to change my perspective on it. I was only ticked because of the amount of work some of us put into helmets, molding, sculpting etc.. to offer to the world and he simply pops blue lenses in and they sell like hot cakes.. LOL.

But oh well. Life goes on lol.

VersionUp you living in Tarpon Springs.. good times. We need to hit up a comic convention sometime. Are there any decent ones that happen down in FLA?

i've seen this auction before, i dont really see a problem with it, taking something, modding it and selling it on for profit is a good idea (if people will buy it)

anyway, regarding the actual helmets, are these any good? you cant get them in the uk, from the pics they look pretty good and if they're only $30 they seem like a bit of a bargain.

Yup just a li'l north. I dunno what else is going on around here 'cause I'm new to actually getting involved with this Cosplay stuff. I know there's a MegaCon in March @ Disney next year. There's a place down 62nd called Fiberglass Services. Good peeps, and they're familiar with costuming so they're a good help. I know I got some great fiberglassing advice from them.

Heck, ive sold props that ive purchased for abotu 600 bucks that ended up going for almost 3k on ebay just because the bidding drove it that high. nothing to do with the seller.

As said earlier, there's a sucker born every minute - buyer beware! If people do their research, they can find a better deal - or a better item! Yeah, it's annoying, but the first guy that comes up with a better helmet for the price will give this guy some competition.

And to echo Razorsharp: anyone seen one of the $30 ones up close? Might be fun to use as a modding platform so as not to mess up my good helmet!

He still has to buy the licensed ones before he can resell them. The way I see it, he's actually helping "Iron Man Inc" or whoever owns it by moving more of their products.
