What was the drying time like on the paper mache, when I do it it tends to stay damp for about 3 days

The drying time on the papier mache is about six hours. I am using PVA wood glue mixed 50/50 with water. this wood glue is STRONG and incredibly fast dying for a product of this strength. diluting it is definitely speeding up the drying time AND, although the wood glue is white, it dries clear.
Also, don't soak your newspaper beforehand. Just paint the immediate area with the water/glue mixture and paste on the dry pieces with more water/glue.Loosewire said:

Hi All! Day four came and went with a late start due to it being Sunday, and that means The Grand Prix! Anyway, I still made good progress and got the other Jowl and mic tip pod constructed. As Promised, I have photographed the build process on this side to show how I have created the complicated compound curves in this area of the build.
I am more than happy with the results, and when covered with papier mache, I dont feel its going to be any harder than applying Bondo to a Pepakura Helmet - possibly easier, as this helmet is already amazingly strong and light.
I'm pretty happy with the symmetry and spacing in this next pic.
Such has been the progress on this build, that I felt I could afford to spend the time adjusting the contours under the lens openings. These were too round and followed the contour of the dome too much. I have straightened them considerably and the result is more than I could have hoped for.
These last two pics show the helmet after I threw on two coats of white emulsion paint, just to allow me to see the contours a little better. I am happy to go to body filler tomorrow after looking at these pics.
I hope you have enjoyed Day 4 and I look forward to posting Day 5's progress pics. tomorrow.

Good show, man! Do continue your splendid scratch build. I'm sorry things didn't work out with your printer. I used to do scratch builds like this back in the day, though I never used paper mache for hardening. Will you be using fiberglass later?

To The inquisitor: Mate, I always try to live by these two rules:
1) If someone is doing something that you cannot do, or are unwilling to do yourself, then you have two choices. You can either compliment and support them in their endeavours, or you can GOYA and do something as well.
2) If someone is NOT doing something as well as you can do it yourself, you offer help and guidance to them. Tis is called 'Constructive Criticism'.
I, and the VAST majority of people on here follow these philosophies and it is evident in the INCREDIBLE array of talent and ingenuity that litters this forum like an open cast diamond field. I guess the old adage stands, that if you can, then DO. And if you can't or DON'T then be quiet and let the rest of us get on with it....
And now if we could get back to making models, costumes and props and having fun, I would very much appreciate it!
