AWESOME THREAD. I didn't even realize this thread existed but I'm so glad I found it. I'll be going as Gem to comic con as well and I've been slowly gathering all info from the different Tron threads. Definitely will be interested to see the silver contacts on when you get them Annisse.

Agreed, great thread. I love that the costume designers and makeup artists etc have admitted to the products and methods used from the film for Tron Legacy. I didn't exactly go digging for it for other movies, but it seems to me that there's more interest for TL. Great links for the contacts too, only thing better is if we could find ones with the hexagon. I'll have to do some more link exploration later.

Thats only because the makeup artist for the film is also one of MACS makeup artists. It was heavy MAC p.r. that got all the magazine and web articles, not so much the film P.r.

That makes sense, though it's still nice to know which products were used. Now people can find other products in that shade, or use the exact products used on-screen if they want to be 100% screen accurate. Cool avatar btw. Mass Effect was awesome.

I really do wonder about those "HEXagon" contacts now on the Sirens. If they actually had custom contacts with a hexagon shaped iris made for them to wear or, was that HEX iris shape we see in photos and movie stills all done in post?

I mean, I sure didn't see those HEX iris shapes in the movie and I saw it in IMAX! That close up of Gem and the dark haired Siren actress, you think you would notice it, maybe some did. I only noticed it when ppl started posting photos online.

My point is, why would they invest probably hundreds of dollars on contact lenes that don't even stand out that much? The costume budget was $13 million not sure if that includes the makeup part of it? But then again, this was a high budget major motion picture being made so I can see them dropping BIG money on getting the contact lenses custom made with those hexagon iris shapes. Who knows??? Maybe someone else out there can enlighten us.

I could have sworn someone else posted this but maybe not. In the behind the scenes footage on the dvd disc the actor who plays Sam is talking to Michael Sheen, Castor, and he talks about how during the acting scenes he's not paying attention because he's to busy staring at his eyes and counting the hexagon points. Maybe it's just Castor who has them but I'm pretty sure in one of the close ups of Gem you can see the points very slightly. But ya, the difference is soooooo subtle it is kind of like why bother.....maybe because they can. Maybe with all the lights around or something doing the hexagon shape made it seem like their pupils were always dilated or maybe melting into the color.....gives it just that touch of something weird. Lol all I know is it's definitely not enough of a difference for me to go all out for hex irises hahahaha.

Also I would be using better punctuation but I spilled water on my keyboard and now my shift and control keys don't work....booooo

Ahhhhh interesting then yeah, they probably did throw the money down on custom HEX iris contact lenses. JEZZZZZZZZZZZ where does this money come from for these movies to do this. Oh yeah. Disney, they practically own half the world!

and I guess this settles what color the Sirens contacts are. Wish I could have found this darn article before I ordered those Silver ones. Oh well. I swear, that photo of the dark haired Siren, before post, totally looks like silver lenses.

So I Sakara, your Punisher contacts would be the best bet to use I think. They do have that bluish and grey toned color to them. Even ICEY Dolly Grey contacts would work too. They have that fringe in the middle of the lens.

Quote taken from the following link regarding the lenses....

"I wanted the Sirens to have doll-like eyes,” says Da Silva, who complemented actresses’ blue contact lenses with a bold burst of fringe.

Yeah, AFAIK it's custom made - so I was still right with the blue - possibly a blue-grey?

EDIT: found a pre-production photo of a model stand-in for the make up test:

hehe in that above pic you can just make out the lace line of the wig! I see she isnt wearing the lenses either.
Disney often do those little touches in films, that only some people ever see...the geometric pupils being one of them!

Ah, well, You can always wear the silver when out clubbing!
So it seems the Punisher lenses are the best as they keep the normal size of the iris, unlike the Korean lenses which make the iris bigger.

I might be returning the silver lenses the YouKnowIt.com site said they except returns, but, I shall see, yeah the silver can be coo! just to have to go out clubbing and I am due for some new crazy looking contacts any way :P although I am loving those Terminator ones on their site too :P

Any way, I am so crossed between the Korean lenses or the Punisher for Siren contacts. I am really liking the Korean ones too cuz they do have that blueish tint to them in certain lights and I because Da Silva mentioned that the contacts have this fringe around the iris, I am liking the Korean ones for that bit of black fringe touch that makes the iris stand out a bit. I guess I am not seeing them making the iris bigger as you say they are.

Ahhhhh you don't look stupid! what are you talking about?!?!?! you are beautiful and did a fantastic job on your makeup. I am so tripping out worried I am not going to get mine right and look like a fool! I still need to purchase my lace front pale white blond colored wig and style the thing. They said they bleached Gem's wig to white in that ELLE article. I don't see white. I see a very pale blond.

it is a very platinum blonde ... i just threw my regular hair up into a bun there was no way i was messing with a wig .. it would probably be real hard to get a wig close to your scalp bunned and realistic .. i really cant wait to see what you do for that .. then again i just look retarded in wigs because i have a lot of hair to fill them up with ... i end up looking like a cone head lol this makeup is actually realllll easy the trick is to make yourself pale use a liquid foundation way lighter then your natural complexion , and for the highlights of the cheaks forhead chin and line down the center of the nose a white almost lipstick like concealer i use maybelline coverstick ... then i set it with a face powder mixed with a lot of baby powder so it lasts .. for about ten days lol then you just have to be careful when you are packing your black mineral eyeshadow .. it likes to fall on your freshly whitened robotic face ... you can always tape a napkin under your eyes like a crazy person to catch the fallout ... then be careful applying your freaky lashes .. you will do fine ! ..

No, no, Anisse. That's why you ARE HERE on the RPF. We want to get as close as possible. If you're really into the Korean lenses, then choose it.

Annisse, you could always keep them anyways, clubbing or not they're still pretty cool... and out of all the nit-picky people in the world (translation: the people on therpf who will pick up on the details), it took this long... they'll still be fine I think.

normal lense have diameters of around 10 - 12mm. The Korean lenses diameter is 14.2mm so they would cover more eyeball than normal lenses, thus giving that big eyed anime look that is popular but isnt like the Siren's normal size though oddly shaped irises. I find the Korean lenses also are not opaque enough, and often allow the natural eye colour to show through. They always look best on someone with dark brown eyes as the large diameter is often twinned with a larger pupil hole, when you have dark brown irises anyway, any brown showing just looks like a bigger pupil.
The punisher lenses have a black fringe on the outer edge.

*sigh* I'm such a good hearted soul and digged the complete cast ad crew listing for Tron Legacy on IMDb.com and got the name of Cristina Patterson Ceret, who did the hand-painted ISO/Siren lenses and I also found the site "Professional VisionCare Associates" with her profile and her business email adress: eyegirl@mac.com. Maybe she can help you with the lenses. Professional Vision Care - About Us Scroll about 3/4 the page down and you'll find her profile.
