Tron Legacy Costume

Lurker, finally joined. In the process of making my boyfriend and I costumes for halloween...and because I wanted to. This board had been integral in helping me decide how to go about it. Twinight, Annisse, and many others have been my main inspirations. Thank you guys for being awesome.

I made a template in photoshop that I'm going to project onto the foam I'm making into my bf's armor for a red guard. I figured I'd put it here for someone else to use if they wanted. Hope it helps.
The light and dark areas indicate "depth" f the armor.

Yes, the APP I have changes your voice in real-time. You can also record your voice too and save it to play back later. It is called VOICEMOD for Iphone though, not sure about Android.
And when it's changing your voice, is it only during a call (so the person on the other end of the line is the only one that can hear it) or can you hear it too?

If the latter, taking a hands-free headset and connecting the earbud bit to an external amplifier would definitely work. I have seen RadioShack sell some inexpensive amplified speakerphone type things, so that's another option.

You can hear it to by hooking it up to an earbud piece. My boy Tom also hooked it up to our TV and you can hear your voice MOD back in real time as well.

Here is a sample of my Quorra voice done in VOICEMOD. :)

Nice! That's pretty darn close!

And since you get your voice in real time, you should definitely be able to rig something up with a wired hands-free headset and a little amplified speaker.

:thumbsup

That sounds great, Annisse! To me, it's close enough to work for Con purposes! Now you just need to make a couple more samples for us to download:

"Get in. Get...in!"
"Hang on."

I've seen some portable speakers that plug into computers that may work, but you may have to get an adapter for the jack to fit the iphone.

If you can get this to work in your helmet, that will be epic! :D

EDIT: I just found this link, check out the DLO portable speakers. Maybe you could modify this to work:

Or this may work even better since it's powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium battery:

I D/L'd an APP for Iphone called VoiceMod, the Darth mode I think it is called sounds perfect for the Quorra voice. Now, to figure out a way to hook some sort of speaker and system to project it out for everyone to hear.

All this fiddling with electronic stuff is killing me.... anyone???

You could record all the phrases you want
& loop them into 1 long recording .
Then if you have a small Ipod Nano ? You
could buy a couple small portable speaker's
& mount 1 inside each side of the helmet ,
along with your small Ipod Nano & set it to
replay your looped recording . You might need
this adapter from Radio Shack so both
speakers can plug in at the same time
( depending on the small speakers you use )

NXG 3.5mm Y-Adapter Headphone Cable : Headphone Adapter | RadioShack.com

these might work with a different adapter .

O.M.G! That's seriously awesome Annisse. I agree, it's definitely close enough for a con, and pretty much any other purpose.

Next, you get to figure out how to make your helmet dis-assemble itself off of your head, then it'll be perfect! :lol

Thank you! That was my 1st try at the "MADE IT" voicemod too ;) haha I will have to try all your sugguestions but that I exactly what I was told I would have to do to amplify my voice with the voicemod.

I have a question, does anyone know where you can find a 1/2" width sized white/silver reflective tape trim that is high gloss vinyl/PVC top coat that is smooth?

All I can find online are high gloss reflective tapes that have etching in them like triangles or lines imprinted onto the vinyl coating. It has to be smooth. I need this for my Siren costume.

The only place I found it was on Ebay but it is in Hong Kong and no way do I want to risk the delivery time to the US, says the latest it would get here is July 15th.

I found the 3M brand makes a 6300 series that is High Gloss Smooth Trim but can not locate any stores online that sell that one.

Have you checked McMaster-Carr? They have some reflective tapes (though I couldn't find the 3M stuff) and will deliver to you next-day.

so i just bought these shoes for my Gem costume. Obviously I'll have to spray paint the black part white but overall I'm happy with them. I have to be lol because I haven't found anything remotely close to the Siren shoes as everything I have found is either out of stock or no longer available.

NIB Patent Black White Cutout Wedge Heel Peeptoe 7 | eBay

I may also need to find a way to fill in the peep toe....maybe with friendly plastic....The size is about half a size to small possibly so I may leave it peep toe for now to allow for that room. I'll have to see when I try them on.

Oh WOW! those are perfect! I am trying to see if they have any more of those for my friend who is doing Sirens with me. That price is great too.

I like the ones I got for mine. Same mold as the shoes they had on the display at the movie theater but the back as well as the front is open. I need to find some perfect match shoes to tear off and put onto the shoes soles I have. Going to a shoe repair shop for that. No way am I going to trust my gluing skills trying to glue an entire shoe onto a sole. Knowing my luck, the whole thing will fall apart as I walk around the CON HAHAHA! :lol

Thanks for the reflective tape sugguestions everyone but that is not the type of gloss reflective tape I am looking for. I need this type. The sew on cloth type with a vinyl/PVC clear layer on the top BUT with none of these triangle shapes on them. It needs to be smooth.

Hi guys, I thought you would like to see the progress of my male sentinal program and female program. The Male program is for my boyfriend and is temporarily at a standstill until I can fix some issues with the symmetry and get extra fabric. In the meantime, I have been working on a female program for myself and it's turning out better than I expected. I've been documenting the progress for everyone and I am super excited!

Here is how it started out. I made the chest piece with one piece (cut out of a large foamie foam sheet $7.99 from Jo ann's) and the back piece with another cut out part of the sheet. I got the idea to use elastic bands from twinight and it's worked very very well so far. I whittled different pieces down to my liking with scissors and an exacto knife, vaguely following Quorra's design but not really.

Eventually, this came out of 4 days total of work.

I made my hub out of a Subway takeaway soup lid. It should fit perfectly with the deluxe disk toy :) I wrapped a thin 2mm piece of foam around it and hot glued it into place. Hot glue is the godsend of this project. I'm not planning for EL wire at the moment, but I can easily upgrade later as I left the hub hollow to allow for an inverter or batteries etc.

Here's the top of the hub that will be visible to everyone

Underside to show where I glued

This is after a few hours of work to make it more 3 dimensional. The pen marks were just mocked up design ideas that will be mod podged and plasti dip painted over and won't be seen in the final product.

I did about 4 more hours worth of work to flesh the chest piece out a bit and this is how it currently looks

I haven't started layering the back yet, just mocked up for now (yes that is a tron dvd used to keep the back down for camera viewing)

And lastly, here is my BF's limbo piece as it is now.

His was the first one I started and obviously I had no idea what I was doing yet, but I'm not willing to scrap it as it somehow perfectly fits my boyfriend...which is interesting because I was attempting to fit it to me originally.

Gotta love happy accidents.

Cycle gear has that too although it is adhesive backed:

Hello everyone.

Can I first just say amazing work on these costumes?! I've read through most of this thread but it's all looking foreign to me. However, I am trying to keep up and see how I can apply some of the methods explained to a costume I'd like to make happen. Well, the costume is already done (ordered a black zentai suit). It's the rest that I need help with. It isn't from Tron but most definitely Tron-inspired.
Big Time Spider-Man.

Any tips, or direction to point to (of an old post with a similar situation and solution maybe?) would be appreciated.
