Tron Legacy Costume for 10-year old

My son put the touch on me last night. He wants to go as SamFlynn for Halloween this year.

The one big challenge is trying to gauge how much this kid is going to grow in the next 8 months. Also, this costume really doesn't interest me on a personal level, so I really haven't tracked the various project threads.

So, as I usually do, I'm asking for your suggestions, either here or over PM, as to who I should be speaking with on this. I see a lot of great threads, but instead of sifting through page after page after page, I figure I can just ask those already in the loop on the major players.

have an 11 year old boy wanting a Tron Legacy costume as well, due to possible growth spurts you can't guess what their size will be, safest route would be to make sure the "armored" section is adjustable (I recommend velcro to adhere) and just get a black long sleeve t-shirt and pants closer to wearing date. Use reflective tape as well Best of luck!

Unfortunately, I don't have any suggestions, but wanted to say that I think it is great that he wants a Tron costume!

Start with a black undersuit. For comfort, rather than a single-piece, maybe a tight fitting turtleneck and sweatpants.

Then I'd totally recommend making the armor pieces out of foamies craft foam, and coating it pasti-dip spray on rubber coating. Used this for my super-budget batman and it worked very well. Then I'd recommend reflective tape for the "light-up" sections.

Thank you for the suggestions, but I'm talking about going balls-out on this. Lightsheet and the whole deal. It's going to be (hopefully) a project he and I work on together over the coming months.

Definitely make it comfortable! I would definitely go the "armor plate" route and then add the detail after that. What you can do is get some L200 high density foam in black and cut the shapes out. Heat form it with a heat gun onto a black suit/shirt/under armor shirt/something breathable. (keep in mind ventilation in all areas that are possible. L200 and other high density foams are used for insulation so it'll trap body heat like a mother)

pre wire with suit and plan out where the lights will go then Glue the foam on then dremel the details in or cut it with a hot knife. While glueing, run the wire through the foam at areas where they need to be connected to the EL tape/wire/panels. Velcro the lighting elements on, solder, hook up the power and you're golden. I definitely recommend not making the foam elements from the Torso join the Legs so that he can sit down comfortably. Good luck!
