    Aug 6, 2012 - Thor Build #1

So this is my first ever attempt at eva foam costume building. I modified the Pepakura file made by: PepMaster found on pepakura gallery.

As of now i have the chest armour finished i just need to paint it. but before i did i was wondering. Before i seal it as instructed by stealth, do i sand it to remove excess glue and such? i watched all his tutorials on foam and it didn't really say one way or the other. i searched the forum but when you search for sanding 99.999% of the results deal with the resin/bondo method. I just don't wanna sand it and have it ruin everything.

Sorry about the cell phone pics. It's all i got at the moment.

finished painting it and added the straps to the back to keep it on.

I get the hammer back from my friend tomorrow who laser engraved the famous "whosoever" line on it.

Very cool! I like how you made a blah face in the pic with the unpainted vest, and grinning in the one after painting. Probably not on purpose, but makes for a good before/after pic.

What are you planning to make the disks out of?

yeah for the excess glue i meticulously cut off as much as i could with a craft knife lol

And I'm planning on using this foam i use for model making called insulation foam. it's really easy to work with and is a lot harder than EVA foam so it'll be less bend and such.

The face was totally unintentional. i always laugh when i see myself in a self shot photo because it's so inherently ridiculous i guess i just caught it in the photo second time around lol

I've seen people use a silver quilted looking fabric. Not sure what it was or where they got it from, but it kind of looks like a small quilt stitched with little diamonds which simulates the plated look.

Yeah I saw that too it almost looks like reflective foam padding used in cars to reflect sun light. But I can't find anything like it. I've thought about making plate mail out of craft foam sprayed silver but i don't know if that'll even work.

Only way to find out is to try!
I would cut out individuals shapes of the diamond pattern from foam, or hell, even cast resin ones, and then pattern them on top of a normal sleeve

Yeah that was how I was gonna go about using the craft foam. And I've never done anything with resin before so I'm still a bit hesitant with that at the moment. I think my next buil will probabl Be a resin build though.

So i finished and attached the metallic orbs to the torso. I also got the hammer back from the engraver so i painted it assembled it and added the craft foam leather to the handle. The hammer is made from solid wood and an oak handle.

No reason it wouldn't work but would be massively time consuming I would imagine.

A quick google search for "diamond quilted fabric" turned up a few options.

TAUPE WITH GRAY AND BLACK DIAMOND DESIGN UPHOLSTERY FABRIC-1.75 YD | eBay

    http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/56...ng_fabric.html

Diamond Quilted Raised Texture Fashion Fabric Gray | eBay

Even found one where it was used in dog coats lol, but a common theme seems to be upholstery fabric, so I'd look in that direction .

looking good man i made mine out of foam as well and for the mail i bout a table quilted table cloth at joann fabric and dyed it a silver color then paint took some silver spraypaint and put a few thin coats on it to give it a real metalic look and im pleased with it i also cut out a mesh and added it to the sides of my breast armor and it really sets it off and gives it a cool look
