Tauri's 2014 Costume Contest Entry - Mini Guardians of the Galaxy

In keeping with the tradition of putting my kids in group costumes, this year I did Guardians of the Galaxy. Groot is made completely out of foam, I used a soldering iron to do all the detail work. Rocket's head was my first real attempt at a furry head. While my son loves wearing the costume, he also hates how hot it is and the fact that he gets errant fur in his eyes and mouth, so it's hard to convince him to put the costume on. Star Lord's helmet started out as a foam pep that I eventually resined and bondoed because I wasn't loving the way it looked. I molded and cast the pieces on the cheeks, and the bracket that holds the chin piece on was cut out of sintra. I also hand made Star Lord's jacket out of real leather. My sewing machine hates me. Gamora was the easiest by far, just sewing really. Her sword is plywood, the detail work was done with a wood burning tool and puffy paint. On to some progress photos:

Ok, so it's going to post all of my pictures sideways, sorry about that.

Above photos were taken by Tony Julius, he's awesome. It's going to be tough to get the proof shot, I think they are really done wearing these by now but I will get one posted today. Hope you enjoy.
