Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
This is really nice, I'd love to know how it's going. I'd not thought of hinging a helmet like that.
I need to get myself a shed/workshop like yours and put a lock on it to stop people doing dump furniture in their like my last shed. Why do we need a sunbed anyway? we live in England! |

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
Hello again!
Okay so my plan to resume work after the NHL playoffs was a bust. A bunch of other things kinda took precedence. Storm knocked over the fence... lightning fried my ethernet... and so on. Anyways I am starting to get back on the job and have some menial progress to share. I am back to the the bondo of the outer shell. I decided to work on the "brow" of the helmet. I previously rounded the opening, now, after some inspection of screenshots thought it better to have a hard angle to the upper "browline". ![]() ![]() ![]() Much more bondo work to do. I have to refine the lower part of the visor slit as well, at present it is a little too wavy. I have yet to begin the real work on the inner shell as well. I have only hardened some of the inner portions that have some detail to them with Rondo. ![]() Plenty to keep me busy in the near future. Last edited by Sylgian; 07-12-2011 at 10:18 PM. |

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
That helmet is coming along nicely. I will be building this costume for a friend when I'm done working on these models. The model is as accurate as it gets since it comes from the source.

Your patience payed off. It looks like it came strait out of the sith armor mold, I wouldn't go fusing it to your skin though.

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
And I'm back. I can rarely find the time or the motivation to get back to work on this thing! But, this Sunday the planets aligned and I was able to get out to the shed and spend a long afternoon working on the bondo. Its pretty relaxing in that little room, I gotta tell ya.
Anyway here are a few more pics of the day's progress. Slow and steady. ![]() ![]() ![]() Still loads of work to do. Ill check-in again later! |

Best of luck though, It would be nice to have a more accurate PEP file for everyone. My version of it is far from optimal. |

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
I am back at it after another short break. Slow and steady!
The outer shell has been smoothed and primed. I will add pics of the breather tomorrow, it has been smoothed and fully painted. ![]()

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
Another update!! PAINT!
Well... some of it. I have the breather painted and cleared. I even did some weathering on it. The base color sprayed on the outer shell. It looks pretty good, it does have some bumps and scuffs that I found once I sprayed it a lighter color, But I have to say, I am pretty pleased. It still needs the white details painted on and the little blood spatters. I will probably be adding some weathering to it in the form of scratches and dirt here and there. I don't want it to look perfect. I feel it looks better/more authentic when its a touch worn. ![]() ![]()

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
Small update. I got the white details painted above the browline. I also started my weathering. I still have a bit more to do, and the little blood spatter before its finished and I can hit it with clear.

Beware that I was told the stock scale in the file is a little small so you might want to take some measurements and bump it up a little. |

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
Finished my weathering and added the bit of blood on the outer shell. It will be getting a clear coat tomorrow afternoon to seal it all in.
I bought a nice tinted face shield from my local Grainger today. I plan to use it as the visor material. I will be working on mounting that, the breather and ...the mountain of work still left to do on the inner helmet in the days to come. ![]()

Re: Sylgian's Sith Stalker Helmet (WIP)
I ended up buying a replacement welding face shield for my visor material. It was about $12 locally. Anyhow, I have been busy mounting that in such a way that it could be easily/cleanly removed... you know, just in case.
After a good while making a pattern with some clear plastic, this is what I ended up with. The screws thread into some bosses I glued to the mask with epoxy. You might also notice a brace I installed along the jawline for extra rigidity. I wasn't liking how wobbly it was. I will be working on a way to mount the breather so it is also removable next. The tape is temporary ![]() ![]() ![]() I turned it to let some light through the visor. From the inside the visibility is pretty good.
