Stephanie Brown Batgirl

I'm in the middle of a Batgirl (Stephanie Brown) commission. Here are a few pictures of my work thus far:


This is one of the gauntlets. The base glove is a padded motorcycle glove that I ripped the extra wrist strap off of. The gauntlet itself is a combination of vinyl, leather, PU-coated spandex, fusible fleece, piping, and a coil zipper.


This is the back view of the bodysuit. It is a combination of dark purple athletic mesh, purple wetlook (flatlining mesh), and moleskin matte in black.


This is a better picture of what the mesh parts look like. Here I used some stretch pleather for the black part, but I eventually decided that the fabric weights didn't play well together, hence the switch to moleskin matte in the picture above this one.

Pouches!

My awesome helper, Amanda, did the patterns and cutting for these. I stitched them up!

All of them are functional. The belt length is adjustable. They are topstitched with 138 weight polyester thread. Heavy duty two part snaps close the flaps. In short, these pouches are the very definition of UTILITY.

Thank you for the lovely comments, everyone. I learned a LOT during this build and I am very happy to see the project completed.

OH, OH, OH BEFORE I FORGET! GLUE! I FOUND A NEW GLUE! Part of the delay in this project was finding an adhesive that would work with the pieces I got made by Fev Props (emblem and fins). They were made out of Vytaflex-20 which is nice because it is flexible (fins won't ever break), but a lot of stuff just wouldn't stick to it.

Eventually, I called the Engineer Guy (shop here in ATL that sells prop supplies) and they suggested a product called Urebond. It worked like a charm. Bonded to the Vytaflex-20 AND my velcro. Give it a try!

I'm a seamstress, not a propmaker, so while this may seem like an Earth-rattling find to me, I'm sure some more experienced folks are just thinking, "Well, duh!"
