here's a couple pics of what i've been working on this week. i still need to bend the visor more to fit better. what is the best/safest way to do it? i'm thinking in the oven at a low temp.

No oven. Try a hair dryer, if that doesn't work a heat gun on low. Is that a modified kids costume visor?

no, it's a trimmed down motorcycle helmet visor with silver pinstriping.

    thanks!

i tried the heat gun on low to reshape the visor. those things are pretty stubborn. i couldn't get it to hold more of a curve at all. i may have to just deal with it the way it is and hope it works.

here's a few more progress pictures. the holster will get some stitching on the edges and the wrist band is hopefully going to look more accurate soon.

    thank you!

i did a test fit of the visor last night and it definitely needs to be curved more. it pulls away from my head too much and it looks terrible. the knife is all rubber, it's the trainer model. big thanks to darthchiro for posting the link for it!

does anybody have any other ideas for reshaping the visor???

try that if not, you cooould buy some clear thin tinted sheet plastic or even a welding visor and making a frame from something like a metal clothes hanger, and then glue and bend the welding visor onto it and pinstripe it maybe? If you dont think that will work, ill try to think of something else, I'm a HUGE joe fan and will do everything I can to help you out!

"Acrylic can be heated to make it pliable. It will become rigid again when it cools. Never heat acrylic in a kitchen oven. Explosive fumes can accumulate inside the oven, and ignite.

A strip heater is the best tool to form acrylic. This tool will only form straight line bends. Buy one from your acrylic dealer. The strip heater will heat just the area to be formed.

Heat the sheet until it begins to sag at the bend line. The bend should be made away from the side exposed to the heating element. Sheet thicker than 3/16" should be heated on both sides for a proper bend. Use forming jigs or clamps for best results, and wear heavy cotton gloves when handling heated acrylic.

Forming other than straight line bends will generally require specialized equipment and jigs. "

thanks for the help punisher! i'll have to look into that method. i wonder if i could bring it somewhere around here to get bent into the shape i need.

right now, this is the biggest obstacle in my costume and it's starting to irritate me.

i brought the visor to an acrylic place in town today. they said they couldn't bend it for me because all they have are small rods for bending on, nothing to do a slow larger curve. the guy was real nice though and gave me some tips on how i can try to do it myself.

here's some updated progress pics. i'm making a sword out of wood for safety reasons. i don't need somebody pulling out the sword at a bar on halloween and causing trouble. i'm going to make the sheath out of PVC pipe if i can. i may still purchase a replica sword and use that sheath and the sword for pics before going out. there's a few loose ends i need to clean up on the bandolier and holster still.

i finally got my visor reshaped enough to fit good. i used a heat gun on high for 2-3 minutes aimed mostly in the center of the visor. it's more of a bend than a curve but i think it looks pretty good. there are some small hairline type cracks in the visor (barely visible) from the bending. i guess i could have gotten it even hotter. these motorcycle visors are very resilient! the attachment part is made out of 2 different sized furniture coasters.

i'm just going with a compression top and under armour hood. unless i can figure out an affordable alternative.

i've got the sword painted. i'm dragging my feet getting the guard cut out and finishing it. it's really not that great, just something to have when i'm out on halloween. i'm still on the fence about ordering a replica one.

the visor is great, i can see out of it very well. i did a test fit and it fits perfect! i have to re-glue the attachment pieces though. one of them wasn't holding entirely.

A wooden sword will have problems Because of the grooves and imperfections. If you have a good shape, you may want to try adding some chrome paint to give it a nice shine. I recommend a replica sword if you are willing to spend it.

    Good job so far.

No way, I've made tons of wooden knives and swords, you can smooth out any imperfection, and if theres knots in it you can put a dab of bondo on it.
Fanboy, what about sculpey for the hand guard?

That's true, but you get the nice "ping" sound when you flick it.
