I went to a welding supply shop and bought two of the green tinted glass rectangles lenses that are for use in a welding mask. You can buy them in different level of darkness. They are ridged of course but I liked this.
I placed them over the inside of the eye openings and hot glued them in place. This left a bit of a gap as the helmet is curved and the lense is not so this gap allows for ventlilatation but is virtually unnoticable unless you know what your looking for. Cost - $5
I believe that green lighting gel is canon, but I'm taking it one step further for my snowtrooper (also a green lens). I managed to find some green acrylic which looks great, so now I don't have to attach gel to the lens but have the added rigidity of the acrylic. It's a little thicker than .080 styrene so it should form up to a curve quite nicely with a little heat.
I've got extra, so I'll be tossing some at the junkyard soon. Here's a colour sample against white.
I guess if you found it to be too see-through you could always back it with tinting (reflective silver behind the green would be pretty snazzy).
I have thought about using a replacement visor for a motorcycle helmet since so many cool colors are available. Check out Dennis Kirk and go to Helmet Accessories. Prices Vary. I do not know how the workability of this material will be though.

Green welding visors work great for a lot of Star Wars visors and lenses. You can find them online.

The best material I've found is dark green acetate face shields. They're cheap, readily available, easy to cut with scissors, easy to see out of even in low light, and don't deform as easily as lighting gel. I ordered mine from Mcmaster.com. If you go there, search for acetate "face shield". It'll be listed as "green" and make sure you choose acetate, not polycarbonate.
