    Jun 8, 2012 - S Shield Jacket Questions! #1

    Hi Guys,

I originally posted this over in Props, and that was a mistake - so I'm putting it here in the Costume section, because that's where it should be!

Anywho, I'm relatively new and I've been lurking the forums for a while, but I've got a few things in the pipeline that I'll be able to show on here to contribute

Have any of you purchased a Smallville S shield jacket from eBay, Magnoli or other places? I know the original tailor, and have spoken to them about it, however it's just out of my price range for a jacket that will not see super regular wear.

I'm curious to know about the quality of the jackets that are out there, particularly on eBay, and the ones labelled as real leather.

So, do you guys have opinions on them?
How do the red colours appear?
Are they good quality jackets? Sturdy? Could you wear it regularly if you wanted?
Can you post a pic of the front and back?

    Which seller would you recommend?

    Thanks a lot guys!

    Thanks for the tip!

I was thinking about doing something like that, but I saw that there was a fair bit of interest in the jacket a little while back, and only a select few purchased the jacket from the original tailor, so thought it was worth a shot to see who 'round these parts might have gotten what when it came to some obtaining a jacket from other sources.

I got one from the leather collection it was a nice and well made jacket there where just parts that where off the \s/ logo was way to big at the bottom and the collar was to small.

I did askif they could chage this and sent photos of changes as they asked and they said they didn't understand what tbwas I wanted so I gave up

    Thanks for that.
I think I have seen photos of that jacket, with the extra long point bit of the shield.

I shall just have to keep doing some research!

As awesome as that jacket looks, there's a reason for it...

They're photoshopped images, taken from here - a user who bought one from the original tailor posted some photos of it. They're photoshopped pretty well, but you can pick up a very faint blue hue around the zipper, and the angle of the stand-thingy doesn't seem quite right

    http://www.therpf.com/f24/smallville...7/#post1648456

It may well look like that though. And if the reviews are right, definitely looks like a good synthetic option.
I hope it does look that good, because I would certainly consider it if it does.

I think it's one you could probably take a bit of a risk with. Chances are, you'll end up with a swish jacket either way - and not dissimilar to the original.

If you go through with the purchase, post some photos of it, because if it does look like that, even though it's synthetic, I'd definitely consider it as an option!

I purchased one sold by Celebswear via AMAZON. Synthetic leather feels heavy and seems of good quality. I went through AMAZON hoping it would be easier to solve any issues with their help. The only issue I really have is with the zipper. The zipper tab is on the left side (as being worn) instead of the right, A little unusual, and may be a manufacturing mistake, but it works, so no huge problem.
The total price was $179 with shipping.

Many of these websites seem to steal each others photos for display purposes, which made me a bit nervous. So... here are some photos of MY actual jacket!

That jacket is looking pretty sweet!
Looks like it has all the detail from the original, so looks like a good buy

Any chance you could post a couple of photos wearing it?
Does the shield smooth out once the chest is flat/when you're wearing it?

    Thanks for posting the pics!

I will say that the original jacket didn't have stitching around the S shield.

I think that is probably the hardest part/most costly to replicate from the original properly, cuz it involves custom plates and stuff for pressing.

I would guess the raised S on most replica jackets is done with a foam of some sort...but I think for what most would use it for, it's not a bad compromise. Would still look good in general - we're just closely examining it and looking for things like that

The company that made all of our leather stuff for the show would use heavier leather inserts between the top and bottom layers in order to achieve many of the details (like the chest and ab details on Dr. Fate's costume).

That's a nifty little fact to know! They did some great leather work for the show - and I really like how some of the things they did are creeping into their designs, and not looking really out of place in casual wear.

They do some amazing work - but it would have been even more awesome to be able to see and work with their stuff first hand!

I can't really wear it, it is a gift for my son. I tried it on, but it's too tight on me. Should fit him fine though!

UPDATE on this jacket - It's been hanging in my closet for 3 months (it's a birthday present) pulled it out today and noticed discoloration around the S shield in front. Almost as if there is some sort of adhesive underneath the material that is bleeding through. Very upset. Can't recommend Celebswear and they are no longer selling through AMAZON.
