Rick Grimes of The Walking Dead (Season 3) Almost Complete! PICS!

Hey all,

Been a while since I've done anything here, and with Halloween quickly approaching, I thought I'd start another little project.

As you could tell from the title, I'll be going as Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead (Season 3) this year!

Here's what I have so far...

Here's the shirt. Color is a light beige at the moment, so I'll be dying it to a closer tan color.

I'll also be dirtying it up with some brown dye and a fair amount of zombie blood.

Next up is the duty belt with various pouches. A few are accurate, others...not so much. May have to pick up some more accurate ones.

Holster looks pretty spot on, only issue is that it's brown. You can hardly tell in person, and it was only twenty bucks.

Been working on the Grime's hair style as well. Needless to say, I can't grow facial hair worth a crap...so I'll have to dab some makeup on.

The pistol should be coming in the mail later this week, gonna try to find the proper grips somewhere...any ideas on that?

Pants are just simply black jeans, which I have A LOT of, and the boots will have to wait.

What do you think?

Dyed the shirt today!

Tomorrow I'll be adding the dirt and grime (even though I really like this shirt and don't want to dirty it up, ha).

What do you think, people?

Dirtied up the shirt. Went a little overboard on the front. Hoping a few washes will subdue the color a bit. At least if looks like I'll just have walked away from hacking up a zombie horde.

Well, the shirt was washed and most of the grime came out. Gonna have to find a better way to do this.

Also received the pistol today. I've seen a few people swap out the black grips for the correct wooden grips on the airsoft models...but from what I can see this is impossible...any suggestions/tips?

Anyway, been working on a machete prop to flesh out the costume a little more.

Started with this...

Sanded down the blade to get this...

Then taped off the blade...

Added a few nuts to the handle, a few blood stains and knicks/scratches on the blade.

So...there's that I guess.

Once you weather/dirty up a shirt the solution is simple. Don't wash it. Most good looking methods don't stand up to the wash. It is a costume after all and that is what febreeze is for...:lol

Post up a couple of pics of both sides of the pistol and I am sure there are more than a few people here that can solve that problem for you.

Costume is almost complete. Need some boots, a dirtier shirt, and grips for the pistol.

Here it is so far...

Looks great, and you look great! Now that's playing to your strengths.

Thank you! I love The Walking Dead, and Rick is by far my favorite character, so it was nice that this get up fit me so well.

I think I'm just going to call the pistol good and move on. I cannot figure out how to switch the grips. Fail for me!

Gonna run out to a few thrift stores and check for some good cowboy boots today.

Thanks for looking, fellas!

Re: Rick Grimes (Season 3) Halloween Zombie Slayer!

What do this thread and a zombie have in common? They're both dead...

Distressed/dirtied/and bloodied up the shirt tonight.

Hard to tell in the pictures, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. Used sand paper to fray some edges and wear out the material in other areas. Did the stains and dirt with coffee and tea...and a bit of my own blood that I dabbed off of my still open leg wound. Everything is pretty subtle in the pics.

Next up is boots and I should be done!

Re: Rick Grimes (Season 3) Halloween Zombie Slayer!

Found out which pocket knife Rick uses in the show...so I think I'll treat myself to one!
Gerber 31-000583 DMF Tanto Point Serrated Folder Knife - Amazon.com

As for boots, hit up three thrift stores today and came up empty handed...hate buying footwear on ebay, due to size and the fact that they'll be used, but my other options have run dry.

Figured out the problem with the grips on my gun and now I feel really stupid, apparently the models that can be modified are the slightly more expensive gas models...and mine is a spring operated version. DOH!

Got the knife today! It's a beauty!

Ordered some boots off of ebay as well...two pair actually...not sure which I want to use.

Thoughts?

Chopped the bottom of the holster off...boy did that make me cringe.

Got the speedloader pouches and the boots on the way! Should have everything I need by Saturday. Really excited to get all this together and take some proper pics...even if the pistol grips are still bothering me.

Can anyone think of anything else I need for the costume? I think I have it all squared away...

Anyone know the model watch Rick wears?

EDIT- Think I found a "close enough," watch option.

Have the shirt weathered and dirtied to the point where I'm pretty happy with it. I think I need a little more grime around the neck, but other than that, the shirt id DONE.

Now I'm just waiting on my packages to arrive and I can finish this thing in style!

Super excited about my latest find!

Found some vintage Justin 2222's in my size on ebay! The listing still had four days left, but I begged the seller to sell them to me early...and she did! I am forever grateful. These are THE boots!

Ignore the date on the pics, seller said it was just the camera.

Had to share before I even get them because this find made my day!
