Just curious...how durable is the puff paint? I just have a terrible vision of doing all that work and then bumping into a wall and scraping a good chunk of it off or something.
The suit is looking GREAT! Makes me really excited to start on mine (if I ever get a print!).

I wondered the exact same. I'd hate to put all that effort in and then put the suit on and it cracks or comes off really easily. Any info on how durable it is guys??Sharpshooter55 said:

For the most part the puff paint is really durable. It's in thin enough quantities that it wont really break, and as far as scrapping off El Fett only had a little of it happen in the armpits, which is easy to reapply.

I recommend the Adidas techfit undershirt with clima-cool. That way you don't have to rip your hair out with duct tape! And it'll help contain a lot of that sweat (especially around the armpits and back) and keep you cool since it gets a little toasty after a while:

Turns out it wasn't the type of party I was thinking it was going to be. We were sent out on a type of scavenger hunt thing. Had to go into a couple villages, a park, a goldsmiths/museum to find clues which was a good laugh.
It was great to hear kids shout "Look it's Spiderman" as we walked past, a couple kids wanted high fives, a couple others got scared and hid behind their parents. One parent came up and said "Thank you for making my sons day." Just awesome to see their reactions.

Looking forward to more pics. Are you thinking of finishing it off completely or are you going to take a break from the puff paint? Also one thing regarding the chest spider. Did you make a border with puff paint, wait for the border to dry, and then fill it in with the puff paint in a similar fashion to how McLean did it with the silicone. Or did you paint it by dabbing the puff paint on the design? Not sure of you understand what I mean, the point is how did you get an even coat of puff paint cause I tried to make a spider with it and you can see "waves" in the dried paint. Just wanted to see if you could clear that up for me.

First of all, Tulip paint IS latex. It's basically the same stuff...so heat isn't a reason not to do it.Powerhouse70 said:

Do a layer of clay. Make the honeycomb pattern. Let it harden. Pour in your latex mixed with the red paint. Let it dry. Seriously the entire thing would cost you less than $30. And you'd do it in 10x less time. And your pattern would be more uniform.

Really like the look. very smart and cost effective, if labor intensive, method of getting the 3D look of the suit. One small question. How does the mask attach to the suit so seemlessly?

As McL34N said it's pretty durable. The only problem I've had is that if the paint isnt left to dry for long enough (at least overnight if not longer, to be safe 24hrs) it can peel off when stretched.Sharpshooter55 said:

So the chest spider I did by making a boarder as you said. Only thing is I didn't wait for the boarder to dry, the paints pretty robust, unless you actually put your finger in it or something it's not going anywhere. just squeezed the paint out very lightly and spread it thinly. It did come out a little wavey but not too much to notice.
The largest part was a bit tricky but i just smoothed the paint down with the corner of a piece of card, like when smoothing off wall filler.
Yes. To highlight some of the muscle tone I smeared over some of the black puff paint onto the already dry red. But yes, all the same red.tylerswim23 said:

I've noticed in some of the pro-mo pics it looks like the designers tryed to make it look as if Peter stitched the red and blue parts together.

Redtogusa. No matter how many times you write that, it will get buried and people will continue to ask the same questions over and over again. I think you can limit this by writing in your signature that pretty much EVERY question has been asked and answered within your thread multiple times and suggest people take the time to look through. I understand its very frustrating for you to keep having the same questions asked. I even did it myself in mcl34ns thread. It's also frustrating for other users as the priceless information gets buried deeper and deeper under mountains of praise and same old questions. I, and many others visit this thread daily to see your fantastic work. You and mcl34n have done a fantastic thing for this community and it's a shame for all your hard work and tutorials to get buried. I think having something in your sigs may help slightly. I hope I don't derail your thread further with this comment.
Noticed on the end credits 'Cirque du Soleil' was credited for the Amazing Spiderman Suit design. Would perhaps be interesting to watch some of their DVD extras for insights into costume design as well.
Since you're a stickler for details (which I am as well). I'll share a couple of other observations I had that you might or might not want to also tackle. I notice there are a couple of "practical" differences between the hero suit and the stunt suits. Like the lenses are actually just mesh for the stunt suits. Here, you can see the "hero" suit inside the car and the stunt suit outside. The lenses are obviously different. And as a matter of fact, the stunt person is not even wearing the mesh there, just frames.
You can see the mesh material better on the promotion suits that were used for the premiere and special appearance events:
I have a friend who works in promotions in Mexico city and she actually was the one to receive and handle the stunt suit sent from Sony for the Mexico Premieres. Amongst the things that she pointed out to me where that the fabric was really REALLY thin. The eyes were not reflective and the shoes actually had flat rubber soles (not asics) as you can actually see here:
Again, those are things she noticed on the official suit she received for the purposes of the premiere but I would imagine the hero suit to have the same construction with the exception of the lenses and shoes. Another thing she pointed out (and you might actually want to tackle this) is that the crotch is actually more rubbery than the rest of the suit. It's a different material it seems. By the way, she touched the crotch on the suit while no one was wearing it or at least that's what I'd like to think. You can see what I'm talking about here:
Lastly, the hidden zipper seems to be way thinner and unnoticeable but the location MCL34N identified is correct.

Thanks for the pics El Fett. Very interesting stuff. Besides what you mentioned I noticed from the pictures you posted that the blue parts of the palms and inside of the fingers are a darker blue than the rest of the costume.
The stunt suit looks like it's missing the leather palm parts too.
I've also noticed before and I think it's been talked about in other threads that the rubber crotch area you mentioned is shaded pretty heavily, almost black. That's something I wanna try to replicate at some point too.
