Uh yeah hey just wondering if any of ya'll are from New Zealand, what is the equivalent to Bondo? We don't seem to have it readily available.. I don't know. Yeah gonna attempt a build eventually, hope this thread isn't breaking any rules being solely a question thread.

Last thing, is this: http://www.nzfibreglass.co.nz/viewpa...?DocumentID=32 by any chance what I'm looking for in terms of fiberglass resin? What about body filler? Also is the cloth on here: http://www.nzfibreglass.co.nz/viewpa...?DocumentID=36 is this what I want in terms of reinforcement? How much am I likely to need? What thickness? Sorry if I come across totally noobish or whatever. Don't particularly wanna start making enemies now or whatever.

Have you tried Builders Bog (made by Turbo NZ) for a Bondo replacement? Easy to apply and spread. The ratio on the tin is a little vague, but after some experimentation I found a good ratio to give a good work time but still set up well. Will have to grab my tin to check what it is. Will edit the post shortly.

Hope this is of some help even though it didn't answer all your questions.

Edit: Tin shows volume measurements, but I have always preferred weight for getting consistent results. Manufacturer recommends 1 gram hardener to 30 grams paste as a mid point, and I use 0.7grams hardener to 30grams paste to give me a decent working time to mould and sculpt the putty into shape or to spread it over a form.

Okay so if I bought two of these from this seller (1.2L), he also seems to have fiberglass cloth I think:

Fibreglass Cloth 48gm2 Model Making | Trade Me

Is this the right cloth? What will 1.2x2.0m be enough for? And is this a good resin?

Polyester Resin - Fibreglass Kit, 1 kg | Trade Me

They're all by the same seller so if all of this is okay I can save on shipping or whatever.

Unfortunately I don't know about the fibreglass side of things. Will be interested in the answer or at least suggestions from others who do know.

That resin looks fine. Polyester resin is basically polyester resin regardless of what 'use' it has on the can. It's used for auto stuff, boat stuff, model stuff etc, so each place just has a label that relates to those uses, but it's all basically the same.

I've used fibreglass cloth and it's fine, however the one in that pic looks a little lightweight, I think the one I used was 200gm, but an extra layer or so would probably make it fine. He mentions on that page they sell other cloths etc, so maybe see if he had a higher gm cloth?

What exactly are you making? It will help people give more specific hints. I would probably suggest getting the 4kg can of resin and a bit of extra cloth etc than you think you'll need, because it's better to have too much than not enough, and 1kg of resin probably won't go as far as you think if you're making an Ironman suit or something like that.

Nuplex sells resin. that fibreglass cloth is really nice to work with especially for props rather than the regular stuff

What budgy smuggler said, I am using crc bog it's not bad. Zgrip I think is another brand but I'd have to say crc is better.

    what are you working on?

At this stage just an Iron Man helmet. Not the full suit immediately as I lack the resources to do so.

Okay got some CRC Body Filler. Anything I should know before I use it? My resin should be here in a few days (: Also any of you's guys know a good source of cardstock? The Warehouse and Warehouse Stationary had nothing (At least nothing in my budget) haven't tried OfficeMax or anything else yet.. There aren't really many places here in Napier. I bought some off TradeMe to keep me going - $10 for 50 sheets, but something local would be much better.

Totally forgot about Nuplex, oota is on the money there!

Do you have a local art supplies store? they should sell cardstock.

Nah I don't. Went to OfficeMax today, they have a large variety of paper thicknesses for about $30 for 250 sheets. I've read that 110lb cardstock translates to about 175gsm is this right? All my current work has been on 200-250gsm and I've found it sooooo much easier than the one time I actually tried 175gsm.
