Pepakura Line-x Hybrid. New??

Hey everyone i'm new here and just thought i'd share some exciting news here! I decided to risk my Hard work on my pepakura Master Chief Mk. V armor in a test. A while ago i discovered "Line-x." It's an extremely stiff, durable, and slightly flexible Spray on Truck bed liner. It's strength and durability are virtually unmatched (As this stuff is also sprayed on military vehicles to slow bullets) I found this and had an idea. I wanted to spray my pepakura armor with it.

When i looked up the method, to find if anyone has used it before, i was shocked. There is absolutely no indication anywhere on the internet that suggested it had ever been done before! Anywhere! So i decided to risk it and find out if it works. It did. Take a look at the pictures of my test piece. (Mk.V right shoulder)

Also, just to clarify:
It can be sanded smooth
It can be painted
It can bond with Bondo for shaping.
It can be awesome.

I'm excited to see if anyone else tries it.

You can get anything sprayed at any Line-x dealer (there's actually quite alot of them) Look it up.

One more thing! This was sprayed on pure cardstock (No Resin, rondo, or bondo was applied beforehand) I used it to replace those methods. This stuff dries in 5 seconds (it's applied hot)

So you have to go to a Line-x dealer and have them spray on the material? And my next question is how much did they charge you for your shoulder piece?

I agree with dkaniel, I'm sure doing a line-x or Rhino liner spray job might cost a pretty penny. I used this stuff called Herculean liner for my truck bed, it's a roll on application. I wonder if that will do the job at a fraction of the price. The only downside is the huge rubber chunks in the material that has to be sanded smooth.

Yes And for my whole armor set they charged about $120 dollars. Not too expensive.

The only difference is that this is spray on, applied hot, and conforms to all the little details on the armor. Like i said, the whole armor set cost me about $120. Also, cold application liners don't bind as well and can peel off. Hot applications bind on the molecular level.

How's the finish? Is it fairly smooth. I seriously thinking now of going this route.

The finish is a little rough, but some fine sanding will take it right out. This cut weeks off of my work time for a low price. I completely recommend it. :) Just make sure you properly brace it first.

You mentioned it bonds at a molecular level. I wonder if I can use this method for my foam build. I'm going to try it I will let you know the results. Thanks for bringing this method to the table

Hey just wanted to update you guys! here's my finished helmet. (without lights yet) After using linex, sanding it, and painting it. 1025141929.jpg
any warping you see happened before they sprayed it. I've never put together a cardstock helmet before so it didnt come together perfect.

The helmet looks good. I don't see any warping. I think it looks good for a first time cardboard build. I'm almost done with my foam build, when I'm done it's getting a line-x treatment.

Thanks! it's actually cardstock, not cardboard. Good luck with it!

Here's finished product guys!! :) Super happy for this thing.
20141031_150834.jpg i went with a kind of mix between halo 1 and halo 3 aspects. Overall Mk.V aspects.
Important!! If you are planning on using any kind of adhesive method to stick Linex pieces together, forget it. Linex is very very adhesive resistant. (including Velcro strips and hot glue) Use something more concrete.
